There is no BB data for prepaid accounts. If you have standard gprs data you can use the info from this post to use data with Opera Mini.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/blac...tml#post716304

That is the ONLY way.

Default Is it blackberry.net or airtelgprs.com?

I could get the dial-up complete by using blackberry.net and not by using airtelgprs.com. But, no data transfer, yet

Thanks for all the wonderful instructions at blackberry forums. I moved one more step closer to using my blackberry 8300 Curve (from AT&T) as a soft modem on Airtel, (Bangalore, India) with BIS working.

Even after multiple device reboots, I could not get the dialing proceed beyond "Verifying username and password" as long as I used airtelgprs.com (from Bangalore). Today I tried with blackberry.net (both in modem configuration on PC and as APN in device) and I could get connected; though no data transfer, yet

Here are all the problems I have:
  1. Cannot use 8300 as softmodem
  2. Opera Mini cannot be installed
  3. Not sure about the DNS settings (202.56.230.5)
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Strangely, who-is on airtelgprs.com makes it clear that it is not owned by Airtel at all!! Try visiting Search Results for "airtelgprs.com" to see what I mean. I want to call Airtel CC again and blast for giving wrong APN value.

Thanks,
Sateesh

Default Finally it is working after airtel enabled "modem services"

Hello All,

Yesterday, Airtel sent a BlackBerry Newsletter that had information on using BlackBerry as modem (http://snipurl.com/AirtelBBPublic). It is clearly mentioned in the document (attached to this post) sent by them that "Mobile Office" or "Modem Services" need to be enabled. So, I called 121 and they enabled "Modem Services" and it is working good.

To summarize:
  1. Request Airtel to enable modem services. {somebody in this thread already sent a one-liner that mobile office must be enabled}
  2. Ensure Desktop Manager software verstion > 4.0 is installed
  3. Configure Modem and dial-up connection as mentioned in this thread by Deepak et al. airtelgprs.com is correct
  4. Ensure that BlackBerry device is connected to desktop
  5. Ensure Desktop Manager shows "Connected"

Hope this helps.

Sateesh

If you enable Mobile Office, thats another 399/month for 100 mb.

If you ask Airtel to make your number Mobile Office enabled, they ask you which plan you wish to subscribe to.

The idea is to use the unlimited plan of BB.

Hi Sateesh,

Maybe you were one of the lucky ones who got through.

I had a huge argument with Airtel yesterday over this and those guys are not budging saying that it is company policy not to activate Modem Services.

And like Ritz mentioned they are saying you have to take seperate connection for Rs399/month.

Is this Blackberry Newsletter you are mentioning an official letter from Blackberry or Airtel? It doesnt mention anything in the word file who is it from.

Your reply is highly appreciated.

Rishi > Atleast you can browse through the BB Browser on your plan. For my Nokia, I am stuck with just push mail and paying Rs 1099/month , only for push mail doesnot make sense.
Thinking of switching over to Airtel Easy Mail or plain GPRS plan and use inbuilt email client.
Atleast I can tether my nokia over my notebook in case of need.

Those settings worked for me! I am on Maxis Malaysia and could not get access to BIS and all.

Just changed the APN, rebooted, removed battery and all worked.

Thanks!!

Airtel India Users>Those using non rim device, to browse for free, you do need to tell them to activate Mobile Office. This is free of cost for BIS unlimited plan. Donot call 121 but call BB support on 7070 and ask tell them that you cannot browse the internet with your plan and they will sugggest you this option.
In fact I had asked them to cancel my BB Plan after which the BB retention team called me to find the reason for doing so. I told them that its too expensive to just get mail for 1099/month. So the guy said that he will activate Mobile office for free and now I can surf unlimited on my phone, tether with my notebook......etc
