Ok, I will try that,
Maybe the problem is, that another instance of tomcat is running already for the vmware server. I try a different machine.

EDIT: this is the problem. You cant run two tomcat instances on the same IP Address,
Maybe there is a workaround, I have to read a litte more about configuring tomcat.

make sure you un-install first as you can only have one instance of the monitoring service installed in your domain.

OK,
I got the service started now sucessful, after temporarily disabling the VMware web-console.

If someone else has a similar problem (running more then one tomcat process):
Find the directory where tomcat is installed, usually something like "tomcat/conf"
edit the server.xml file with notepad.
look for a line like:
<Server port="8005" shutdown="SHUTDOWN">

this is the port on the loopback network, where tomcat listens for the shutdown command. if you want to run more then one instance, the port must be different.

change it to a port, which currently is not used, and higher then 1024, like::
<Server port="8805" shutdown="SHUTDOWN">

now, the blackberry monitoring service console will be able to start.
