ok -

"reached the maximum of 10 restarts per 24 hours" ...

either restart the BlackBerry Dispatcher and BlackBerry Controller services, or reboot the server.

"Error code 5305"

is a MAPI error / unable to open the message store. Have you read through the installation guide to check all of the permissions you need to set?

Do any users work on the BES?

I have rebooted the server, no change.

One thing I did do, which looking at the doc may be a mistake, is that I installed BES as administrator

Is it wise to start again?
BM won't run as admin but will if I login as my BES user.

I tried the other suggestion of removing the user, how long does it take to delete him out! I clicked the purge option but was advised by a pop up that this is not best practice. He's just sitting in the pending delete tab.

There is only one user at the moment, it is the new software that came with 1 free license. WHEN we get it working, we hope to add 1 or 2 more users.

The BES install guide just said to generate and send, then go to the device and put in the users email and the password, so I put in his email address and the password he told me he uses.
Now I am told it's a random password.
Confusing!
It goes into his outlook mailbox. It can't get to the BB if it isn't yet activated. His regular login password is not going to work. I agree with everyone else, set the activation password yourself - use something simple.

Remove BES and install it according to the installation documentation:

Perform a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Create a unique besadmin account, and follow the instructions step-by-step ...

I just helped out with an upgrade / migration this weekend ... First thing I did was print a copy of the install documentation. Sure, I've done a lot of installs / upgrades / migrations, but RIM has a great checklist all put together for me to use; you should use it too.

Thanks for your patience.
IS there a better install guide than:
Blackberry Enterprise Server for MS Exchange Version 4.1 Getting Started Guide.
Bearing in mind that this is free downloaded software from BB/RIM and so we don't have a CD.
Neil

>> Update, I just found the 'Installation Guide for 4.1.4

Honestly, its better than any install guide I've ever written ... cuz frankly everything in my guide is in theirs.
