i'm now having this issue as well. I've been in contact with RIM support over the past 6 weeks and we have had no success in a remedy for this issue. any help is greatly appreciated.
BES 4.1.4 with MR 5 installed on Windows 2003 / Exchange 2003 VM Server.
15 activated users working fine. Issue is with any new users - cannot EA OTA. The server is off-site many miles away and so a direct wire connection is unavailable for this.
The user account is question is actually my own - I run the BES and I cannot get my BB 8100 Pearl to EA OTA.
The server eventvwr is spammed with Event ID 20163 (Could not find server distinguished name.)
Event ID 30463 (User <user> can not be started, ServerDN not defined, user may restart after ScanGAL.)
Event ID 20154 (User <users> not started.)
Event ID 50079 (1 user(s) failed to initialize.)

I have deleted my user account from the BES and re-added it. I changed the Static Agent to true, at 200, so as to decipher the logs a little easier. The BES User page shows my "Mail Server" line as blank - it won't pick up the 2k3 Exchange box for some reason even though the other 15 already activated and working users do have this DN published here. The line above "Mail Server", for "Mailbox" does show the correct path to my OU and to my user account.

Can anyone isolate this issue and shed some light on why I am unable to EA my own BB?

Many thanks in advance,

I have the exact same ScanGAL problem for only 2 users out of 42.
The message as described in the first post appears for every 12 minutes in the MAGT log, for only 2 users.

Now the weird thing is, that we started to have the problem a few weeks ago that these 2 blackberry users go "offline" after a few days (in other words the synchronisation suddenly stops) This happens after a ScanGAL message:
[30046] (09/11 08:04:42.739):{0xF54} ScanGAL: Detected a mailbox move or key property change for user: ....
[30045] (09/11 08:04:42.771):{0x11A4} Stopping handheld for ....

There is no "starting up" message afterwards

These users also complain that the handheld doesn't synchronize Address book changes from Handheld to Outlook.

Our setup is a BES 4.1.6 connected to Exchange 2007 SP1. These users have a Blackberry 8820.

Is there anything we can try to fix this? I don't see AD replication issues.
Thanks in advance

I found the cause of this issue on the support forum of RIM
The cause is that the e-mail field in Active Directory is different from the default SMTP address in Exchange.
The ScanGAL lines don't re-appear until now, I think that was it

Hmm I've got into work this morning to find that 5 of my users are having this problem, after a bit of hunting around I have mangaed to resolve this by following BlackBerry KB04789, and those affected users have been working fine since:

Just search BlackBerry.com for KB04789 for further details
