TMO USA customer here. I just upgraded my shiny new BB. It wasn't a smooth experience... I had to restart the upgrade several times, but it did finally complete, whew!

Strange thing is that there were no IM apps after the upgrade. I downloaded them from Blackberry.com, except for the BB Messenger, which BB says isn't compatible with my version of the OS?? Weird...

Also, I like the new font etc., much more legible than the old one. One thing I don't like is the looks of the address book, it doesn't show enough information; this was definitely better in the old OS.

Overall, very happy, but was sweating when it would upgrade for a while

No, I checked that and made sure like 3 times. I dont understand why its doing this, sometimes it will switch backover and the rest of the time it will just say searching. Thanks anyways.

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8320:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 45 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device

To find the previous OS for this device... CLICK HERE.

Note: Preinstalled wallpapers and custom folder icons are not included in this release.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I go to either link above I can only find the download for the 4.2.2.184 not the 4.5

Wirelessly posted

Anyone else having problems with memory leaks? And if so, what have you done? I've already ran through John Clarks memory optimization thread, but my Curve will still gradually drop from 19 mb to 12 over the course of a day :( thanks

Yep you're missing the few posts that state the link comes and goes (we think according to server traffic). Check back soon, it will be back up.

Please let me know which version of the desktop manager you used. Also, did anyone download any of the other desktop software. IE, modem drivers or desktop software???

I want to be well informed before I do my upgrade.

Thanks,

Mine did that once with this new OS. Battery pull cleared it right up.

Installed the OS on my tmo curve last night and worked fine until today. Phone froze up quite a few times and couldn't navigate anymore. Performing ctrl+alt+delete restarted the phone but would resume frozen. Once I pulled the battery it started working again. Also had the phone reboot on me twice while I was on it. Any advice?

Do you have a media card installed? Try removing the card and see what happens.

Still have the one unopened message icon even though I don't have any unread messages anywhere. I checked saved messages and there is nothing there. Any other ideas?

Did you try a "Mark Prior Opened?" Highlight a date and hit trackball and select "mark prior opened."

I'm feeling a bit adventurous today, so I'm taking the plunge on my two-week-old BlackBerry 8320. Before upgrading, I did two things with the media card: (1) Searched and destroyed all the .dat files and (2) Took it out of the BB. I also reverted a few things back to defaults (wallpapers, ringtones, etc.). Wish me luck!

Update (7/30/2008, 8:19 PM CDT)
The upgrade was successful. Vital stats:
  • Free Memory = 20.630 MB
  • No duplicate T-Zones icons
  • Getting uppercase "EDGE"
  • Google Maps (2.2.0) works with tower triangulation
  • Facebook does NOT work -- it is not on the applications list even though it is installed.

Update (7/31/2008, 11:11 AM CDT)
  • Successfully associated phone to University's wireless network (features 802.1x authentication!)
  • Reloaded Facebook app, and it works!
  • Can watch YouTube videos! (I rickrolled myself)
  • Memory usage holding relatively steady at 19-20 MB.
