When i got my Pearl (used and reflashed), I had to call up my carrier's tech support to get them to send the services books for the browser, mms etc. It was missing initially, but after the call everything appeared.

There's something ifi bout this version. For example, i've never had a version of the BB software crash on me in the middle of doing something. This one did a day after i installed it. I mean, i know rim are not software people but come on....they've had enough time to perfect it. Im also experiencing signal drops like enough times to say something is wrong. I also live by the lake of toronto and i can catch both T-mobile and At$t and i've never had any of my blackberries just mysteriously loose track of which service provider they're on. But after upgrading to this software, my pearl can't seem to decide if its fido, at$t or t-mobile...and only one works...and thats fido. So, im downgrading to .107 cause this is a rubbish version...:( damn it.

dutch language
Hi, i have installed this version on a spanish movistar pearl. I also need access to dutch language, which was always included in previous updates that i did. In this version it is not present however. Can i install it seperately?
Also, I have chosen english language for the user interface, but i see some spanish words throughout the menu´s. Is this a problem with the installation?

You need an OS that is MultiLanguage. Those can be easily identified in the filename. 8100C is English + Chinese. 8100M is English + MultiLanguage. 8100CJK is English + Chinese + Japanese + Korean.

I installed the Singtel version of this the other day and so far, it's not much of a step from .107. Definitely something to look at, for those who are still using .64 and .73, IMO.

Lost my rintone after installing 179
Has anyone had the problem of losing their ringtone sound after installing the 179 update? My T-Mobile phone would only opperate in the vibrate mode. When I installed the T-Mobile 175 update, my phone both rang audibly and vibrated.
Very Strange!
Might try and re-installing the 179 again, but could not see any appreciable differenct between the 179 and the 175.

Just a comment - Perl is more stable with this update, no more uncaught exception related to GTalk or Yahoo messenger. Also, I think delay with answering calls on bluetooth head set is gone.

".73 doesn't have the SMS message not queuing problem."
Can some one on .108 test this? All 4.2.1.x OS have had this issue... To test, try to send an SMS in an area with no signal (not radio off, no signal ie. searching for network, etc.). Instead of queuing the SMS as it does with email, it will time out with a red X and a protocol error.
I am in league with the previous poster, where for the most part it seems 4.2.1.x was put together in a sloppy fashion. But, if .180 fixed this, I might give upgrading a go again.

Has anyone noticed that sms messaging is slower? For instance, id like to say I type pretty quick for the most part anymore, but with this version I can see the letters hanging behind me. Also when sending or viewing when I hit the pearl button the screen hangs for a second or so.
and... this could be related or not, but when sending a text I will get the initial sent checkmark, but it might take up to an hour to get the delivered checkmark (using the Voda theme).
I havent experienced this with any of the previous versions. Perhaps maybe its just a tmo thing as happened not too long ago when there was sms/mms network issues?

I've been running 108 for ten days now and it's far more stable than 107. No battery pulls necessary, no uncaught exception errors on the home screen for no apparent reason.
It uses more battery, at least the way my Pearl is setup. I used to get through two full days safely. Now, at the end of day two it's running low.
No complaints though.

Ya, so, my bad. I updated my Desktop Manager to 4.3, then installed the new .108 os and im having no problems. Nothing that i described earlier on here. figured out why it kept switching between carriers..(me stupid)..and so on. Though, its funny how people are saying that they had a horrible experience using .107 and after they uppd to .108 its completely stable and so on. u know, i don't notice massive differences between version issues. I only notice it over time..meaning after 5 or so versions. The only reason i update is for stability issues, thats it. Cause when i bought the pearl in feb2007 (my first BB), i was using .46 or .71 and they were unstable as hell. Now, my question is, all these different vendor software versions that keep getting released, does RIM do the actual update, then releases them to the vendors who subsequently release them to their BB users, or do the venders them selves work on them, then just get approval from RIM? Because i noticed that for my pearl, the Rogers versions and the Vodafone versions work the best. Oh, and i have a unlocked Rogers pearl. Now, does this make any sense???? or am i seeing things?
If anyone...
...thanx.
lol

This may be a stupid question, but what's the difference between the software on the 8300 and the 8100? Other than having a higher res camera they should be exactly the same...and screen res. Anyway, my question is is there any way to make the 8100 look more like the 8300? There's just a couple grapical sublties that I like, like when you open up media and it has the carousel style menu. It looks pretty. Is that something that can be done through a theme or are we SOL on that one?

Anyone have a chance to test the SMS not queuing in no service areas yet?
If not, I'll drop .108 on my pearl tomorrow to test. (I have the feeling I will be disappointed).
