I tried the trackball and it is way too small for me. The store tech said the trackwheel is mechanical, not optical. Wouldnt be too good if the mechanism gets dirty like the old mouse-Taking out the balls and cleaning the rollers every so often. I wouldnt even try taking the phone apart to try to clean it.

Just played with the Pearl for the first time last night. The trackwheel is brilliant. You no longer have to hold the alt-key to scroll sideways in text. And the way that it's backlit looks very cool.

I'm in no rush to trade in my 8700 for an 8800 (which is good; it's not available yet...) But I am impressed.
