Another thing I've noticed is that the downloaded version that contains Sheet To Go, etc. is multilanguage.
You can delete all the language specific modules right from the device by going into Options >Advanced Options >Applications >Modules. Assuming one is keeping English, delete the following:
DocsToGoCommonResource_de.cod (German)
DocsToGoCommonResource_it.cod (Italian)
DocsToGoCommonResource_fr.cod (French)
DocsToGoCommonResource.es.cod (Spanish)
WordToGoResource_de.cod
WordToGoResource_it.cod
WordToGoResource_fr.cod
WordToGoResource_es.cod
SheetToGoResource_de.cod
SheetToGoResource_it.cod
SheetToGoResource_fr.cod
SheetToGoResource_es.cod
SlideShowToGoResource_de.cod
SlideShowToGoResource_it.cod
SlideShowToGoResource_fr.cod
SlideShowToGoResource_es.cod
It's not a whole lot of memory but every little bit helps.

This way when Apploader is run, the loader will pick up Docs to Go as a 3rd party app and back it up and restore it normally. We'll have to do this until RIM includes the new version in the OS packages.
Good luck!

Thanks John. Works perfectly.
EDIT: you may want to change the path you note, it does not have the "Shared" folder in it. Should be:
C:/program files/common files/research in motion/shared/loader files/<your BBModel and OS version>/

So I still don't know how you guys got the premium version free. I guess I will be happy with the standard for now.

Get Excel Free
Open Docs to Go, either Word or PPT
Register
Hit your Berry button
Select check for update Took a while to download...
This will update the Standard version to ver 1.002 (016) which includes Excel aka "Sheet To Go".
Thats what I just did and I can now open spreadsheets stored on my card, Edit Mode is proving to be troublesome, even the smallest of spreadsheets causes the program to crash "not enough memory" I suspect it means RAM because I have plenty of space available. FreezePanes and multiple worksheets are working as well.

John.. I did as advised.. I'm a Premium edition user of Docstogo. But when I go into Apploader (I'm using version 4.6), it still shows
"Unrecognized modules that will be removed
SheetToGo
SheetToGoResource etc..."
since there are only 15 downloads of Docstogo allowed even for Premium users, is there any other fix??

You renamed the documentsToGo.alx file and it's still saying that? When Documents To Go shows up in the application loader be sure and check the boxes for it. If you've deleted or renamed the documentstogo.alx file then the boxes you're checking are for the premium edition loaded to your device already.

In the Apploader, it show Docstogo checked, action "Downgrade". On clicking Next, it shows that Sheetstogo will be removed. Any advise? (btw, DocumentsToGo still shows as a ALX file with the name DocumentsToGo.old).

I don't think you're getting it renamed properly. The only reason I say rename it is so you can get it back if you need it. Try copying the file to another folder somewhere (in case you need it again) and then delete the original one altogether. Then try apploader again.

John, that's brilliant! I removed docstogo altogether and now when I run apploader, it shows DocsToGo (gets the version right too... 1.002.016). Under Action it shows "None". So I guess the way to do it is not necessarily to rename it, but to move it to another folder (removed modules).
Thank you again, John!

My guess is you renamed the file DocumentsToGo.old.alx. It just wasn't renamed properly. I'm surprised it still picked it up that way. Anyway, moving the file accomplishes the same thing. Glad you got it working. Be sure and do that each time you do an OS upgrade

Great, thanks. I gained about a MB by removing VAD files, and yet kept my DocstoGo intact. One more thing.. how can I remove Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger since I use Jivetalk? It doesn't show up in Applications on my BB and I'm sure it hogs some space.

There should have been boxes to check and uncheck for them in Application Loader. Simply uncheck the boxes to remove from the device.

I put the latest OS On my phone 4.5.0.37 (52)

Not knowing what illegal download site you got it from, DTG is included with the OS, so either your OS version has been screwed with before you got it, OR you UNchecked DTG from the App Loader install of the OS.
And, no, OSs are for specific model numbers. You can't cross-pollinate from the 8310 to the 8320
