You know why is it all I've been reading lately has bee BS ?

Do we know WHAT is causing the problem EXACTLY ?

I managed Merek servers for allmost 3 years .

Does anyone think these System Messages could be "Looping" or Backloging on themselves ?

Regards,
~

THis did not fix my environment either. Over the weekend I had a number of users receive APB's. This is starting to piss me off. If so many people have this issue why is it we can't get an answer why it happens and a "TRUE" fix to the problem. Unreal.

Another episode with RIM support....I laid into some support guy until he finally got me some answers. Here is the latest. Apparently the Reg Hack fix only fixes 2/3 of the problem. It disables all APB's that are not triggered by the Dispatcher service. So if you are still getting APB's they are triggered by this service. Things to make sure to check: Any changes to the Mail Db Design could trigger this, are any maintenance agents running when this happens...for instance fixup, updall or compact of users Db...these could all cause this to happen. But they did say that this will "definitely" be resolved in SP2....to be able to turn off all APB msgs. So not that this is a fix by any means but at least it is explained a little better. Still pissed....shot my TAM a nasty note on this again too....she better get some answers!!!

This problem also occurs if Notes archiving has taken place. A user called me because his mail file was full and he had only taken his Blackberry. I archived several months of his mail and the BlackBerry went mad.

Default This helped us (but didn't fix it 100%)

We removed write access to C:\Lotus\Domino\Data\BES\APB\ and now the users are only getting ONE error, instead of the hundreds they were getting before. Your milage may vary, and your APB directory may differ, but this makes the problem more bearable until an official fix is ready from RIM.

Has anyone had a chance to test SP2 yet as far as it relates to the APBs? I haven't seen any results, good or bad, so I was just curious. I finally had a chance to install it on a test server today, so hopefully I'll have something (good) to report soon.

We installed SP2 last week. After applying the reg hack, we have not had a single APB...

Check Admin Guide from SP2 (See technical Knowledge Center -Product Documentation) for the new reg key that needs to be added to the HKEY Local Machine section of RIM. So far, after applying it on monday, have not gotten any system attendant email's.

Did you add the registry key as documented? It might require a reboot too before it takes effect. I have seen the registry hack for BES 2.2 posted several times, but that is entirely different from the registry change for BES 4 SP2. What seems to be causing your APBs? Were you able to determine which messages/views/folders/etc. are actually generating the messages?

I'm just curious since SP2 seems to have fixed our problem. I see the same "skipping message" error in the Domino console, but now it no longer generates an APB. That seems like a very good sign to me.

We applied SP2 and the reg hack, and the APB's are still coming. Not near as often though...

Ya, we've seen a few sneak through, too. You'll get some if you replace a mailbox design---reghack or not.

We've never had an APB since we went SP2, but we were told a different registry change, not the one listed above.

We did:

1. Open regedit.exe.
2. In the left pane, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In
Motion\BlackBerry\Server
3. Right-click Server, and then create a DWORD value called
"MaxSkippedNotificationsPerDay"
4. Double-click the new value.
5. Set the value to 0
6. Click OK.

This is the published reg hack by RIM for BES 4.0 sp2. It might require a reboot.

The published reg hack to disable notifications is the "DisableFailedNotify" key. Apparently you also need to set a limit with the "MaxSkippedNotificationsPerDay", since disabling it doesn't actually disable it. I would set both hacks.

In any case, one has to wonder why there isn't a SP2-only update document--and an option in the software to disable notifications (and apparently set the limit to 0). Pretty lousy implementation on RIMs part.

I think this is the manual for SP2, it's just real hard to fine, sorry I can't remember which page I read on, but yes, seems funny that there's not been an "official" document to solve this problem.

I definitely had to reboot for these changes to work.

Default Not sure if anyone has check this.... but.....

This has issue has recently become a problem for us. I just noticed today though, that the users who have the problem most frequently have 'Format prefernce for incoming mail' set to 'Prefers Notes Rich Text' in their person document in the Domino Directory.

I have just changed a couple of them (to 'keep in senders format') ..... I'll keep you all posted. Be interesting to hear if anyone else has tried this?

Ciao
