Please Login to Remove!

You'll need to load the 8310 OS to your PC and edit those files just as you did the files for your 8330 OS.

When you say "profile" do you mean email profile? It depends on how each of your BB's are setup. It can screw up your email or her email depending on how it's setup (BES/BIS/Redirector.) I usually go into the settings for Desktop Manager and have it prompt me for the profile to use. Then when I plug in a BB other than mine I just cancel out of the profile prompt when it comes up and it doesn't affect email delivery.

I only have one Windows login for everything. As long as you installed DM to be used "by anyone who uses this computer" you should be fine with another Windows login.

so now, my new Sprint Curve 8330 has 51576612 Bytes free.. 49.2 MBs free out of a total 79.75 MBs.

Not bad at all...
The most I got my 8130 Pearl to was roughly 22MBs.

Default Just did memory cleaning..

I would like to say thanks to you JohnC for this as I followed your instructions and worked great. Looks hard with all the text but when I started it only took me 10-15 minutes to do the edits and moving and reading to make sure I did it correctly.. Booted back up and I went from 11.2Mb to 18.8Mb.

Awesome job for ease of instructions.

I will be returning to this site from now on to find out more tips and tricks and information.

Jon

OK

i was shy about this endevour, but since i had 5mb and wanted another 3rd party app, what the heck...

so i gained a little space: 7mb (yea, after battery pull) hmmm. the sprint theme and preloaded pics really don't add up to much. my drug guide app requires 5.27 MB of memory

i could possibly toss VAD, sprint nav, maybe Gmail and Gsearch? weird to be struggling with memory so soon after purchase (one week). i think these apps are only in the 200-700kb range so IMO the BB just comes weak in it's memory offering.

i'll keep researching...

The 8130 uses a little more memory. However, I just had an 8130 in my hand from Verizon (belongs to a relative) and it had 11Mb of space on it without doing anything to it. I removed a few things like the preloaded video and moved pics to a media card and then even added a few vendor themes to it and still had 12Mb free on it, without removing VAD. The 8130 isn't really the device for using an app like the drug guide that requires over 5Mb of memory. I would look into the 8330 which came out recently. It has 96Mb of memory and using this procedure on it will give you plenty of room for your drug app and other apps.

Using John's procedure to free up memory netted me 22mb free on my 8130. I kept the VAD but got rid of all the language files. Actually, if you remove exactly the files mentioned in the write-up, including the PTT files and leave the VAd files you will get 20mb or so clear.

OK, dumb question. For step #4 it says use text editor of your choice. What is a text editor and what is recommended for opening that file mentioned? Thanks for the help

I have a 8120 and was going to try this since I keep getting everything deleted. The version I have is 4.3.0.91 When I go to the BB Desktop software should I do v4.3 b25 WITH Media Mgr or v4.3 b25 WITHOUT Media Mgr?

net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_sonicnetworks.cod
net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes_tunebundles_tunes8700g.c od

The names of the tunebundle files may vary on CDMA devices.

Removing these will leave you with no notifiers, as well....like for email, sms, etc.
Does removing these 2 , remove things like vibration , or just the preinstalled tones ?

Excellent guide !!

It just removes the preinstalled tunes. However, I've seen issues where profiles couldn't be edited, too. I don't recommend removing the preinstalled tunes but you can give it a shot if you really want to.
