Rules are put in place for a reason. You said yourself, there are other forums which allow such discussions. It's quite simple really, follow the rules or take the discussion elsewhere

Lets see, we are simply protecting YOU from legal action, protecting property rights and users who don't understand it and completely brick their BlackBerry.

Your "wealth of knowledge" is illegal. Plain and simple.

If you were in charge of this "tool" for your company you would be on here crying not to let it out. So pack up your pity party and move on if that is what makes you happy.

I understand the whole thing i really do....

All i have to say is i now have an AT&T phone with the option to select 2G or 3G. I love it. All i have to say is RIM just saved them self a customer instead of losing one getting rid of the 3G only option. People go search there is a solution to this problem I can finally use this device like a real device instead of carrying 2 battery's and charging cable every where or be afraid how long you talk

I get why the mods have to ban certain things there has to be rules but thats what take down notices are for if RIM does not want us talking about it they will issue a take down notice and then you can remove the links. How are we suppose to know this was not allowed? I see a file I run it am I suppose to know if it was meant for us to use or a technician? I hope this post is left to tell people there is an option and it is tied to the vendor ID.

Long live 2G for battery any ways. I will let you know what my batter life is like now. I normally run BT, Wi-fi, 3G and get to about 5pm before i have 1 bar left. After a nice long charge tonight I will see how long it takes to drain it to the same point. Ill be leaving all the same options on other then 3G it will be 2G

Well i get about twice the time out of my battery. So i get 2 days out of my device now. I think a lot of over concern was that 3G was driving the battery like 10 fold and it seems about half of that. This pig has nothing but horse power so can i complain that it only last 2 days.. i guess not. Guess what I'm saying is don't expect 4 days out of this device even on 2G. Looks like the extended battery might still be a good idea

It all depends on your usage too. I get 3-4 days but I don't use WiFi or Bluetooth much.

I have BT on all the time cause my car supports it and to have to turn it on every time i get in the car takes away from the point of using it. I SMS all day with friends and BeeJive. I wonder if I turn it off how much more i will get.

If you want to see your battery charge vanish use the Bold as a BT modem on 3G. And don't plug it in when you are using it.

ok so let me get this straight. im ditching my iphone and going to the bold. from what i have been reading the att bold will not let you turn off 3g and go just to edge but it will use edge when 3g isnt available? does it do the same thing if you have a unbranded and unlocked bold?

thanks in advance

It's based on vendor ID for sure for my case. I know because I de-branded my phone and I have the option now. I still have the same SIM, same provider, AT&T phone on Rogers just for FYI. Now the one thing is there could be another check also tied to SIM cards as well. It has yet to be determined but from what we have talked about in here it seems to be 100% Vendor ID tied.

I have an unlocked bold with ATT. I cannot switch between the networks. The only "mobile network" options I have are to turn off the network when roaming or shut down the network option completely.

I have a new AT&T Bold and am a little annoyed that we can not switch to the EDGE network only for battery life sake. However, I am bery pleased with the operating speed of the 2G network.
I have ordered the extended life battery from Seidio. I ordered the one that gives 15% more power without altering the size of the battery

I believe it is an issue of Branding and not unlocking.
I believe if you unlock and unbrand your phone then this option will work with an ATT sim card.

I have a ATT Bold that is recently unlocked with an ATT sim card and I do not have this option.
I will attempt to debrand the device and load the lates OS and see what happens.

i can confirm after "de-branding" my bold yesterday, i now have the option to toggle between 3g, 2g, and 3g&2g. Plus my splash screen is now a blackberry logo!

ATT Bold, ATT sim.

Just a note; with the process of unbranding the phone, your phone will be unlocked as well once you're done.

No Unlocking your phone is completely different. Debranding your phone will not unlock your phone.

Wait are you telling us or asking us? I have never herd that unbranding the phone would unlock it as well. That requires a code that is specific to your IMEI number so I can't see debranding your phone would make that go away.
