Default new bold/new blackberry user question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, just traded my iPhone 3G for a Bold 9000. I find the Blackberry OS a tad confusing, especially when coming from an iPhone. I want to do something simple, well at least I think it should be. I want to put the dock on the left or right, not on the bottom. How can I go about doing this?

Thanks

Welcome,

The way you do this is by changing the "Theme", which is an arrangement of icons that you can move to your preference. you can download simple ones, or animated ones.

if you search the forum, or if you google "BlackBerry Bold 9000 Themes" it will pull up websites/threads where you can download free (and paid) themes.

im sure someone else here has a better description of what they are.

Anyway to change the dock without downloading and putting in a new theme?

Thanks

i think only to what is called a "Today" theme. and then just like the others, when you press the menu button the rest of the icone up.

the reason why (my own opinion)that blackberry 5.0 os and up devices dont have the theme with the dock on the left is because they can not fit as many icons on the screen that way, unlike other blackberrys in the past.

Thanks for the suggestions and help, seems it can be done if I buy a theme. Not interested in paying for that stuff so I will just live with it at the bottom.

There are FREE themes out there, you just have to google for them.

There are plenty of free ones. That's one of the many perks of owning a blackberry. You can customise it. From disney characters to harley, cars nature bikes movies, animates, not animated. There are thousands. trust me, you will stuble upon one and be like "wow, im really happy i looked!" I have had over 20 different ones. I changed them daily for a while.

Start at Crackberry.com to get started in the free and pay apps that are available. Don't buy any product that doesn't first offer you a free trial. That way you can see if you like it before you plunk money down. Avoid animated themes as they are memory and power hogs.

After the iPhone experience, you will probably find the Blackberry OS very limiting in customizability and usability. I am counting the days until I can switch to either an iPhone or an Android because the apps and user experience are, in my opinion, so much better.

Regards,
Rob

The Blackberry OS is far MORE customizable than the iPhone OS. Without a doubt Android is the most customizable, but the iPhone is definitely very limiting in customizability.

The iPhone is rediculously limiting. You pretty much HAVE TO hack it.

After 24 hours with the bold I went back to an iPhone 3G. I am really not impressed with the cluttered UI. I know its part of not being used to it, but it just was not what I wanted in a phone. The lack of quality apps that I use on a daily basis was also missed more then I thought I would when giving up the iPhone for the bold. The bolds a good phone for what it is, but its just not what I want.

Thanks for the help anyways guys.
