Question Cant browse usign wifi when data service is off?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all, i cant use the wifi at home or anywhere. I've checked the default browser as hotspot browser but i've turn the data service off. And i've found out that with data service off, i cant actually use wifi. So now i do not dare to turn it on to use my wifi as i'm afraid that i may need to pay the data service charge.
Anyone know of this situation and is there a need to pay the data service when connected thru wifi?
And how to ensure that i'm using wifi and not data service?

Thank you.

Wi-fi is a Data Service. You therefore need to have Data services turned on.

No, when using wi-fi its free.

One way, uncheck mobile network.

Here's a screenshot of what you'd be wanting to do so you can ensure that you are using wi-fi only...

Open the manage connections then make sure that wi-fi is checked and your mobile network is unchecked.

ithehappy, you can use Mobile Data Alerter -> http://mda.e-office.com/ download via OTA from the link ... it distinguishes between mobile data, roaming and wi-fi.

It is 100% free and I use this all the time.

Very nifty app and highly recommended.

Thank you very much. That application seems to be the one I need. But as always, I am unlucky, installed from the OTA link, installed fine and just after install it says "Uncaught exception:java.lang.NullPointerException". Now I don't know what to do. My Bold is running on the latest OS version- .681.
Thanks.
