I've gone through just about every edition of BB to try to pair it to my RR.
has anyone found one that works well; ie where you dont have to perform a manual synch each and every time.

my tmo pearl is lousy and the vzw 8703 is even worse.

will the cingular bb phones be any better or is thisjust a pipe drea?

What year is your RR? I believe they used the same system from BMW. If so, turn off the Address Book transfer and let me know.

i imagine you already tried setting your car as a trusted device, thats what was happening in my car. i had to manually connect every time i got in my car until i figured that out...

8703e with verizon, my car is an infiniti m35x, i was having the exact same problem until i set it to trusted. I checked here for ya and the blackberry seems to be supported, strange.

no...these are great questions, but unfortunatley the answer is yes to all of them.

could it be that tmo doesnt work as well as cingular? thats a stupid question but not sure what else to look at?

I was running a Pearl on Cingular 4.2.0.71 and I had to manually connect each time to have the phone answer with the car's speakers and/or to dial out using the keypad.

It didn't matter if it was set to trusted, address book transfer or anything.

You may not want to hear this, but the 8800 (Cingular) works perfectly with my 2006 RR Sport. It connects every time (automatically) when I enter the vehicle. It answers all calls through the car's speakers and puts the phone number on my dash, and I can call out using the voice command and/or the keypad.

If you have the ability and the bluetooth is your main desire for this phone, you may want to try a Cingular 8800 (or buy one off of ebay and have it unlocked to run it on T-Mobile). I have had great success with mine. Obviously it might just be me, but I would give the 8800 a try if you can.

it seems big and bulky to me, which is a consideration.

but bluetooth is important so that may be the way to go.

Quick question: do you think the magnetic case for the pearl that put the phone in standby/lock mode had anything to do with the problems you with bluetooth? perhaps the signal was sent by the car but b/c the phone was in standby mode, it could not respond appropriately

do you have a magnetic case for the 8800?

It is wider/taller than the pearl but is still very pocketable. I don't use a holster for it, even if wearing jeans on the weekend.

I may be going to the 8300 when that comes out because I would like a camera, but the bluetooth was important to me as well, so I switched from the pearl to the 8800. fWIW, the 8700 didn't work in my car either.

You may want to wait for the 8320 that is rumored to be coming to t-mobile. it has a camera and is shorter/narrower than the 8800. It may be the perfect device (at least for 3-6 months)! ha.

Either way, the 8800 has been rock solid for me. No software issues, phenomenal battery life (goes like 6-7 days with 300 emails/day and moderate talk), very good RF, and excellent volume/speaker.

I haven't set up the 8800 to try and synch addresses because no one seems to be able to get that to work and I have almost 400 people in my Blackberry and it just didn't make that much sense to me.

As for the 8300, the rumor sites are reporting that it should be sometime in April on Cingular and I would imagine about that same time for T-Mobile.

Good luck and let us know how it goes with Cingular/8800 if you go that route.

Just FYI, if you are still lurking and/or contemplating the 8800 but haven't pulled the trigger, you might try updating your pearl software to the 4.2.1.66 that is floating around.

I wiped the device using jl_cmdr and then did a clean re-install of 4.2.1.66 and checked the bluetooth out and it works perfectly in the 2006 RR Sport. Inbound calls are answered by the car's speakers and I can use the keypad to dialout. In addition. it connects automatically to the Pearl when I enter the car without me having to hit any buttons. In other words, the bluetooth works flawlessly.

Again, mine is a cingular pearl, but it is working perfectly. Give that a shot if you have the time and knowledge on how to update the software.
