Default ToDoMatrix "Outlook Sync" Version - Update

Please Login to Remove!

Bob from RexWireless has posted on their forum the following, regarding the long awaited "Outlook Sync" release:

"At a high-level, the reality of the BlackBerry tasks applet sync issue is that:

a) ToDoMatrix offers a lot more features than BB tasks applet and the programs on the other side of tasks applet, most noteably Outlook
b) Outlook's "categories" are by no means equal to ToDoMatrix's folders and a direct mapping between them is not going to happen
c) BB Tasks applet has less fields than either Outlook or ToDoMatrix yet it sits in the middle of the process

All that said, the syncing looks pretty good with some really tricky details slowing up the release. We believe the release will be very soon, but we are being as careful as possible so that we do not mess up a person's task management system with version one of the interface.

Exact ETA remains unknown at this time.

Regards,

Bob

Looks like we still have more waiting to do. Good to know that Rex is taking quality seriously, although it is a little disappointing that they've held up releasing anything new because of this. Given that they have such an overwhelming pipeline of enhancement requests...

Yes, their concern for quality is admirable. I reinforce that. Glad to hear that they have made this announcement.

I suspect that I am not alone in wishing that they would improve their communication skills a bit. Sometimes it helps to just hear from them (or anyone, for that matter), even if they news is not all positive and rosey.

Does anyone know if ToDoMatrix 2008 customers will get ToDoMatrix TAS for free once available or will it be a paid upgrade?

But no - the RexGuys continue to demonstrate outstanding customer service standing behind top-notch products.

My hat's off to them.

I know Bob personally and I can say that his passion (as well as the others) really shows. I also commend them for taking their time to get it "right" instead of getting it "out". Thats why they have a great following.

From the rexwireless forums I believe they are planning to public beta test this in a couple of weeks. If you're planning to buy it, and depending on how you use it, it could take some time to read though the documentation, white papers and get started even without the sync.

This is a great idea and recommended for those considering TodoMatrix. TodoMatrix has a lot within it (which can be used as you want), but understanding their philosophies on how they think to use it and then relating that to your setup will help. The white paper on 4D is especially important to read (on the website homepage REXwireless: BlackBerry Software Applications). Great point mgerbasio!

I concur. And once you get to using it, be prepared to change and modify your pattern of use because your first attempts will almost certainly be flawed in terms of using it optimally for your own goals.

Using the Beta I managed this today.

Apple Mac todos (Created in Leopard, Mac Mail)
pocketMac - sync - to BB Tasks
BB Tasks - Imported into ToDoMatrix

I am pretty pleased with that!

Next I have to figure out how to move those from the 'unfiled' folder - over to the folders I want them to be in. (so far I can do it on the web version, but not on my BB)
