Can anyone comment on the GPS. I'm interested to know...

#1. Speed and accuracy
#2. are maps reloaded on device or does it download as you move(how well does it work on edge)
#3. turn by turn or is it like an iphone gps?

and anything else.

1) Fairly quick to aquire satellites. I'd say it was faster than my iphone. Accuracy is good. It found my location and pinpointed it exactly. Didn't "hover" either.
2) Maps are streamed via EDGE, still fast enough to keep up while moving on the highway.
3) Turn by Turn is available, depending on what app you use for your maps.

Thanks for your answer... What does the built in software offer vs 3rd parter software?

Will it work OK for someone walking in a big city?

@ ohhh my: I used both Blackberry Maps and Google Maps.

@Casper TFG: The accuracy is as good as any GPS system in the big city. I'd say it was accurate within 10 metres.

Great news! I had lunch with a guy showing off his iPhones GPS and during our business lunch he had about 4 dropped phone calls.. (Hehe)

I played with the GPS using the built-in BlackBerry Maps application last night on my bus ride home.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the accuracy and speed. The screen seemed to refresh at least a couple times per second and also estimated the speed at which I was traveling.

For the guy asking about walking around in a big city, I live in downtown Toronto -- after I got off the subway I walked the remaining two blocks home and it followed me quite well as I walked. At one point it had acquired 10 satellites, so signal wasn't any issue.

This is my first time playing with any GPS application so I don't really have anything to compare it to but I thought it was pretty cool.

Just wanted to post letting everyone know that Garmin for Blackberry works perfectly on the 8900. The 8900 isn't listed on their site but I took a leap of faith and decided to buy it. When asked what phone I had, I just said 9000/Bold and it let me download it and everything works great.

Does this work better than the included version?

acquiring the sats is surprisingly quick. Usually the first time takes a bit longer

^ definitely agree with this.

Also seems to acquire signals when you are in a building. Bold compared to the 8900 sucks (GPS-wise).

Try it when you are outside and have a view of the sky.
