I was able to do some testing yesterday and here are the results.
Note: this scenario assumes no blackberry desktop was used to sync prior to migration (as client is all wyse terminals).
Overall I am pretty happy wit hte result. I would have been nice to see the original BIS messages sync back to outlook (so I would end up with a record of these) in the users mailbox.
Scenario setup
Calendar, Contact and emails only located on BB
Calendar and Contacts only located in Outlook
Emails located in both due to forwarding from exchange).
Steps followed (both with prepopulation turned on and off)
Step 1 – Disable BIS Contact Forwarding in AD
Step 2 – Adjust Carrier BIS Settings to forward email to Exchange email and set replyto email to exchange email
Step 3 – Add User to BES Server and set Activation Password
Step 4 – Use Enterprise Activation on Handheld
Result:
2 Message icons are visible after activation.
Message Icon will contain a combination of all BIS and BES emails under one view
BIS Icon will contain only the former (and new) BIS emails that are sent to @carrier.blackberry.net email address
Emails:
- Outlook emails flow to Blackberry. Shows as duplicate emails in Blackberry Message folder due to former forwarding.
- Blackberry (BIS) emails do not get replicated back to Outlook. Emails formerly forwarded from Exchange (BIS Folder) do not replicate back to Outlook.
- Post Activation emails sent to @carrier.blackberry.net email are forwarded to Exchange and replicated to Outlook/Blackberry. Also show up as a duplicate in Blackberry Messages Folder and as individual message in BIS folder. (message is still sent to blackberry)
Calendar
- Outlook calendar items flow to Blackberry. Causes duplicate items if calendar entry was added to both Outlook and Blackberry (even if identical)
- Original Blackberry calendar items are not replicated back to Outlook
Contacts
Contacts are syncronized between outlook and Blackberry. Completely identical contacts will not be duplicated.
Contacts that appear to have identical names, but have different contents (email, phone numbers, addresses, etc) will be duplicated.
