Default AT&T and Bridge

Please Login to Remove!

News is all over today that AT&T users can now download the bridge from App World. The bad news is AT&T requires users to pay for tethering to use the bridge browser.

Of course the user's wireless experience is foremost for AT&T.

Any AT&T users with insight or experience now that AT&T is supporting the bridge? It was my impression that use of the bridge is invisible to the carrier, unless AT&T is doing something with a service book, but that's over my head.

Two possibilities:

1. It is invisible to the carrier, and AT&T is simply trying to bully people into paying $20 per month extra, or
2. It really isn't invisible to the carrier, and AT&T will automatically add $20 per month to anyone's account that uses Bridge Browser without a tethering plan.

My guess is that there will be a change in data usage as people use the Bridge Browser more and more, and AT&T will interpret that as tethered use. As a result, if there isn't a tethering add-on, then AT&T will add it to the account.

Yes. I have AT&T and Bridge 1.0.0.93 is now visible in App World. I already have tethering, so I don't know if it would have added it automatically or not.

While I am not sure about all the capabilities that the carriers have, I know Bell Mobility cannot determine if you are using Bridge or not. Does the Bridge App show up in app world saying that is costs 20$/m? (I mean for AT&T customers) Cause that would take some serious balls on their part.

No, it doesn't. But what has changed in App World is this:

Depending on your wireless service provider you can even browse the web using your existing BlackBerry smartphone's data plan.

Plus, AT&T's press release indicates that they will charge $20 per month extra for Bridge Browser.

Yeah, I spoke to a few AT&T custies, and they confirm after downloading the new app from AW, the Bridge Browser is useless. All other functions work though.

I don't know anyone personally who has a BlackBerry on AT&T. The conventional wisdom in what I've read seems to be what ifonline posted. I also saw speculation the bridge AT&T customers download from app world may be different. I believe I did read some people on AT&T using the non-app world bridge who have no problem. I read one post over at CB last night from someone who wrote that their bridge browser was disabled, which I recall was the word they used, but that could have been that person and nothing to do with AT&T. From what Zombie says, maybe it wasn't user error.

Very interesting.

The new bridge app from appworld has been modified to tattle to AT&T

Download this version of the bridge app: BlackBerry Bridge v1.0.0.93
www<dot>bbh-plus<dot>net/downloads<dot>php?do=file&id=2083

I recommend you browse to the page on your phone and do a manual download onto your crackberry.

I also downloaded a copy of the file onto my computer so that if it accidentally gets "updated" in the future I have a backup for my working copy of the bridge app.

Screw AT&T and their tethering fee.

The version of BBB that I currently have (1.0.7.4) allows browsing on my 9810 - but I am sure AT&T will catch that and button it up quick. The same version gives a popup on a 9700 saying it is disabled and needs a corresponding tethering plan from the carrier.
