Default 8703 vs 8700

Please Login to Remove!

its been along time since i came to the 8700 forum.. i went to a tytn from my 8700 and just got rid of that for an 8800.. my question is this.. can i upgrade my friends 8703 with 8700.. and if this is possible i remember there was a special blackberry.alx file that jibi made and i cant seem to find that either.. i am totally competent in upgrading and need very little help.. if someone could just point me to the right thread that would have all this information id appreciate it.. it used to be a sticky here.. thank you.

The 8703 and 8700 are difference models. The 8700 OS will not work on an 8703. Does that answer your question? It's a little difficult to understand what you're talking about.

basically what im saying is that i have a friends 8703 and would like to upgrade the os.. i want to know if the 8700 os will work.. and if not is there an os upgrade available.. also where the blackberry.alx that i used to use to unlock vendors to allow the upgrade to take place and unlock all the vendor themes...

No, the 8700 OS is different from the 8703 OS. Different system boards inside requiring different software.

how about unlocking all the vendor themes? is this possible without an os upgrade

there is no recent upgrade for the 8703e its still 4.1

I also think the 8703 devices are CDMA and the 87xx are GSM.

That is correct. 8703 is CDMA for Sprint/Verizon (I have a customer with the 8703e on Verizon) with EvDO radio. Hence the big difference in the OS. If it were to let you install the 8700 OS on an 8703, then you would lose all communications with the wireless network because the radio driver would be wrong.
