Default Turning the automatic backlight off?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Folks,
I've upgraded to .64, and as a result, I can't turn off the automatic backlight controller.
But the dimness of the screen is really really starting to annoy me. I can't see why anybody would want to have it so dim.
What is the best way to get around this, apart from rolling back the firmware, which I don't want to do?

Cheers!
Steve.

Where is the light sensor located then?
I really hope RIM revise the decision to disable this.

someone around here shorted/grounded the contacts for the sensor. that seemed to work for them, not something I would want to try on my own tho. hope RIM wakes up and gives it back on a future OS release. (crossed fingers, but not holding my breath)

Yeah, and I think he posted that it eventually quit working, too. Shorting the sensor is not something I would recommend doing. If you REALLY have to have the auto dim disabled then you'd need to roll back to .42.

totally agree! I am not endorsing the mod. just reporting. sorry I missed the part about the subsequent failure.

with all the discussion around here and other places, I'm surprised RIM has not made note and turned the option back on. (or are we that far behind in revisions?)

Actually two people have done this via solder methods. One was successful and one had problems that could have been the result of overheating the sensor. You need to use low temp solder and a lo watt gun, designed for sensitive PC board work.

I am going to do this thing over the weekend and I will make some measurements on the sensor output. It may be feasible to run a resistor in parallel with the sensor so that instead of shorting the sensor I'll be able to kick it up a few notches so that fair light is full bright and low light (read dimly lit gin mills) will be dim a notch or two). This is so the keyboard will light up, which it won't do in bright light, real or modded.

If the resistor thing doesn't pan out (I'll clip and breadboard for this) then I will short the sensor using a trace pen. This is a pen with silver based ink that is used to repair circuit boards and or add circuits to existing boards. If it works this will be a pretty painless way of modding the sensor without the potential for heat damage. We'll let y'all know
