happenin folks i've got this wee niggle with my awesome Playbook and just looking for a bit of advice... ill get the stats out the road first: -

BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 running OS v6.0.0.546 running BlackBerry Bridge v1.0.0.93 courtesy of App World

I've been using BlackBerry Messenger on my PlayBook no problem til about 2-3 days ago when i was greeted by the following scenario (courtesy of my PhotoBucket account)

Before i got the above problem, i was BlackBerry Messenger v6.0.0.73 from BlackBerry Beta Zone so i tried uninstalling that version and switched to v5.0.3.22 however when i did this the BBM icon disappeared from the PlayBook's BlackBerry Bridge section completely. xSo after this i then went back to the BlackBerry Beta version of BBM (albeit an upgraded version to v6.0.0.111 and now the BBM icon has re-appeared again but alas the same problem remains

now i've done the whole unpair and then re-pair method (both with and without reboot) and still the problem exists when it was working fine when i first got it... any ideas?

Make sure you have;
-Latest OS on the PB
-Latest Bridge release
-Latest BBM Official release or Beta (from RIM)

Just un-pairing and pairing again (with or without a reboot) doesn't really fix the problem. As long as you follow all the steps in KB26643 and KB26067 you should be good to go. If you have followed all the steps in order, and bbm still has a problem, then you may have to manually de-brick your Playbook http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-playbook.html Switching from the BetaZone version to the regular didn't do you any favours either.

Well finally got a fix for this - turns out it was both my Display Name and one of my BBM contacts having special characters in our Display Name that was causing the problem (basically anything other than numbers and letter essentially)

Once i removed the special characters, BBM now functions as normal!! Hope they fix that in a future update, although it's a minor niggle, that could annoy quite a lot of younger people interesting in buying one but not fully commiting to it due to these little niggles.

Anyways problem now solved - hope this helps a lot of folks! And thanks again to BlackBerry PlayBook support
