I recently updated my 8900 to os 5, I have lost my facebook and myspace apps which i was not able to restore, question is can i download them to my desktop pc and then transfer it to my smartphone, because I have problems also with my phone because it is not detecting any wifi connections so its not possible for me to download them using my mobile,thanks for your help

Well, you won't be able to use those apps without a data connection, so if you can't get a data connection to install them, I'm not sure what the point would be.

But regardless, for Facebook, there's no desktop install version. All the avenues for downloading it point back to App World or the BlackBerry Browser.

Not sure about MySpace, but I suspect that it would be the same.

Did you read my post?

You can't USE the BlackBerry Facebook application without a BlackBerry Data plan, so even if you could find a way to download it, it wouldn't work on the device.

But regardless, for Facebook, there's no desktop install version. All the avenues for downloading it point back to App World or the BlackBerry Browser.

Yes, I did read your post. Did you ever try using this application over TCP/IP before assuring other users that it's impossible?

I've USED the RIM Facebook app for years on three different Blackberries with no problems, without BES/BIS.

Things change. With the current Facebook versions, it doesn't work that way anymore.

There is NO OTHER way to install it currently.

You can of course use FB through the BBY Browser without a data plan and without the App. I've recently given my nephew an old Bold 9000 with no SIM in it and he's using Facebook on my WiFi network. Obviously only works when he's at home but that's fine.

I also installed the gmail app for him over WiFi but it doesn't work even on the WiFi. I think that is possibly down to it needing a data plan and a SIM. Again, he is able to use the gmail through the BBY browser on the WiFi though.

I'm not sure whether this will hold true for the newer BBYs like the 9700 and beyond.

Did you see the second post of this thread? Not every app is available in the .alx format that lets a user download it to their computer and install to the phone.
