Default Device Upgraded-Notify Everyone of New PIN?

Please Login to Remove!

I want to upgrade my BlackBerry device and sell my old phone to another user who has BlackBerry service. What happens to my contacts who know my old PIN? If they send messages using my old PIN, will the messages go through to the old device, even if the SIM is no longer mine? Or will the different SIM alert my contacts that the old device/PIN doesn't match anymore? How does it affect IM as well?

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

You will need to let your friends your new PIN. The old PIN is attached to your device so regardless of what you do with the SIM, the PIN stays with the BB.

Oh, ok thanks for that.. What about for the BB IM? If I wipe out the device before selling it, then activate my new device, will my IM contacts be routed to my new device? Or will they be routed to the old device? I remember invitations can be sent using the BB address or PIN.

If you are on BIS you can use the device tranfer option on your BIS site to change over PINS and that will make sure all your contacts are updated with your new PIN.

If you're on a newer version of BES, and have a newer version of the BB OS, then when you activate your new BB, then your contacts, again, will follow you.

All dependant on the software versions you're running.

I agree with skyman but for your own comfort I assume you will send some sort of notification anyway.
