Goodbye, Blackberry. It's been real!
Please Login to Remove!
The past couple of weeks I've been reading many debates over the Blackberry vs the Treo. It was my time to get a discount on a new phone and It came down to the 8700 and the 650.
The debates between the two have been going on for a while now and because I chose the Treo doesn't mean I do not love the Blackberry. Trust me I do. I however have learned that comparing a Blackberry to a Treo is like comparing a coup to a Hummer. If I had a huge buisness and had to keep in touch with alot of associates via email then without question the Blackberry 8700 owns the Treo. Just like if all the roads in New Englad were perfect, I'd pick a coupe and drive with my hair flowing in the wind. Unfortunately, I do like to do the "geek" things like download mp3s to my phone and watch videos and take photos. Doesn't mean that the Treo is better, but due to my situation, it fits me. Just like in New England that coupe is great, until winter hits. Then you wish you had a Hummer. That being said I just want to say that you guys here have been great and hooked me up with some GREAT third party software for my Blackberry. And some of you may say I should have gotten the Blackberry 8700. (The upgrade to that from the 7100g is greatness.) but i'm not really a big email type of person since I usually have access to a computer often enough that an email doesn't get missed. I didn't trade in my Blackberry and I can just switch that card back into it and call up and change my data plan back to the BB but for now I am going to see how this goes. Thanks again everyone here who's helped me out. I will never look back as owning a blackberry and having ANY complaints!!!!!

I have to applaud you for your willingness to do the research and know what device bets fits you. Bravo for not being one of those people who buy a Blackberry and then come here and complain about all the things it can't do (pics, mp3's, etc). Sorry to see you go, but it sounds like you did the right thing for you.

my uncle has a treo and i almost bought one, but i went BB for the exact reasons you said. email thoughout the enterprise server at work helps me so much to keep in touch with all my clients i work with.
i work for staples corp in framingham MA. and i love having email at my fingertips, and be able to nextel anyone. the BB7100I like mentioned is for the CORP guy, but if i didnt want the emails and crap, id go with the treo.....but you would have to break my arm to make me give up the nextel walkie talkie....my whole family is on it......
good luck with the treo i hope you enjoy it.

LOL I read up alot about the breaking down of the Treos and yes kinda like the Playstation 2s they're notorious for breaking down, but *knocks on wood* I usually don't end up being unlucky with purchases like that. I'm sorry to go to the Treo as well to an extent because the Blackberry was a great phone, but that's why I kept my 7100g. In case this does blow up and isn't a fit for me like I assume, then I can go back. I just felt like I have all these great features in this phone that i'm not using. It's really up to the customers lifestyle and not really the phone.

The Hummer is a gas guzzler and Environmentally unfriendly vehicle.
I live in New England, and no thanks.

Very true, I commend you, as well!
If you truly don't care about mobile access to email, you probably made the right decision. Especially in light of the importance of the other features to you (like mp3, camera, etc). However, if you happen to be undervaluing the benefits of mobile access to email, you have taken a big step down. I work closely with a couple of Treo users and secretly love the pain and suffering they go through just to get one email account synched with their device, while I sit there and happily check six email accounts on my BB.

My boss has had nothing but trouble w/ his so far. And for some reason, he STILL likes it (I think it's the voice dialing that has him all googly-eyed.)

My mom got one, and nothing works. I couldn't even send a SMS message to see if my Blackberry was working (when I got service changed).

Ooooppppsss, may be I'm wrong.
I came from a Treo 650 and yes it has many functions and a lot of third party programs you can buy to enhance it.
But I'm a bussiness man that need to have my information (basically mail) at my hand and just in time.
I bought my BB 7100g and let my finest Treo 650 for better time and better conditions to my work. May be BB Connect using in Treo someday let me use it.

Good luck... I personally prefer devices that are good at what they do. The blackberry is an excellent device for email, instant messages, calendaring, and not bad as a phone . I think navigating mp3 through a phone or pda is just too cumbersome, that's why I have an iPod. The Treo is the jack of all trades, but master of none.
I do wish my 7130e had a camera and voice dialing (the two things I miss most from my cell phone... Oh and cellular phone battery life - use to get 6-10 days on my cell between charges).

I have both a Treo 650 and BB8700c. Used the Treo for about 3 months and had no real issues with it. Very few resets and everything worked very well. However, I had no confidence that it would and was getting all of my email when I was away from the office. Have complete confidence in BB, so am now with the 8700. Don't really miss all of the programs on the Treo, having confidence in the device and that it will do what it is suppose to do is enuf.
