As far as it becoming the default browser:
I went to bb set up wizard, clicked on application permissions and changed access from default to custom, then back to default access and a pop up said that I must reset device now or later. So I did it now (then).
After the boot a pop up appeared reading that Opera 5 had been terminated as the default browser. ;)

Very interesting. but doesn't this change the permission setting for all the apps? I wonder if this can be done from Advanced Options / Applications and edit just the Opera settings...

Check that before attempting I may have terminated a lot more than that as now I can't get in through the shortcut
It says Interprocess Communication has been denied.
Application terminated. OOPS!

Greetings. Here's what I've learned about using Opera 5:
1. Cut/copy/paste can be invoked by pressing "w" or "1". Isn't listed in the shortcut list. Makes a whole lot more sense than going to insert symbols to Paste.
2. Escaping back to the main Opera Screen then using Application switcher instead of jumping through painful hoops to exit made it faster when clicking links from other apps. If you don't exit to the main screen you wind up with multiple tabs.
3. After entering a username you have to hit enter before you can click into the password or "remember me" check box.
4. Checkboxes can be difficult to hit just right. Enlarging the font or going to full page helps.
5. Doesn't seem like it's really been Blackberry optimized. Menu key isn't used and holding down a letter to capitalize a letter just repeats the letter.
6. Loading this app seems to have broken Facebook notifications in messages. They can not be opened. Tried a number of things including uninstalling and reinstalling Facebook but couldn't resolve until I uninstalled Opera 5.

This application is just annoying enough in so many respects that I have banished it from my device.

I find Opera's annoyances and features complement the native Browser's quite nicely. Each offers certain strengths that help with certain sites. Tabbed browsing is very convenient, but I'd love them to revert to the native editing as presented in v4.2; it's a little different now when inline editing is turned off. And inline editing, while nice, leaves much to be desired (such as a working backspace key!).

It's definitely much easier to monitor my vBulletin site with Opera than Browser - Opera presents the the various ajax stuff better, is way faster, and makes it much more readable. (Of course, when the WiForums WAP engine properly honors "Go to first new post", I'll install that on my board.)

I think it's not enabled in the beta.

I had installed it, and I really wish it was made more for the touch screen devices.
Too many bugs to take up space on my storm.

Default Going to a web site

Has anyone using this app on a Storm figured out how to enter in a URL and actually go to that site. I've tried hitting "Return", or clicking on the typed address, but nothing seems to happen. Anyone know how to actually GO to a web site via the typed in address?

There are two editing modes - inline and native. Both are, as near as I can tell, not quite ready for prime-time. The inline editor lets you hit enter and go to addresses. Using the BB Native editor doesn't.

Thanks for the solution. It was the one thing that was making this app a poor choice.

I am now running 5.0. I hope it functions better than 4.7 OS did with this app

I can't figure out how to simply input a URL and go to it or indeed search from the google search field. Tried trackball, return key plus all others.... Probably me - but any thoughts? ta

I had the same problem until someone suggested turning Inline Editing "On". That did the trick for me on my Storm.

Does anyone else notice that some letters at the end of words on some web pages are missing? I seem to lose an "r" or a "k" if they are at the end of a word.
