hello,

new to the BB world.. coming from the moto Q. i'm very intrigued sofar by this phone. at the moment i have 1 issue. is there a known issue w/ the browser speed because it takes a awfully long time to load,,even my old pos Q did it quicker. i installed opera but to no avail. i feel like there's certain settings or something holding this device back. i am not on any network except for evdo, which i would emagine is pretty stable. any options?

thanks

I don't own an 8703e, but with EVDO it should be very fast. Try going into your Browser options and disabling some of them to see if that speeds things up. The browser on my 7130e is very quick on EVDO, and really I don't have anything disabled.

Sorry, but disabling options is the only thing I can suggest for the moment, but am sure others will come through with more concrete suggestions.

My only experience is with GPRS or EDGE, but I can say that the BlackBerry is very slow for browsing compared to other devices on the same network. I don't know why, maybe it has something to do with the BIS network architecture, but I have found that a PC on the same wireless network, or a PPC or Palm device on the same network will browse much faster than the BB.

Interesting. My 8703e from VZW showed up yesterday, and I fooled around with browsing for a while. I was extremely disappointed with the performance, to say the least.

I'm in a 1XRTT area; we don't have EVDO in the Midcoast region of Maine yet. But the browsing experience felt like I was using the old Quick2Net network; the browser would show "requesting" until well after the backlight went off (default of 30 seconds) between every page. Nearly useless . . .

So I started poking around in the BB's browser and system settings. Something I diddled apparently made a difference, because performance is now much, much better. I haven't been able to backtrack my steps well enough to determine the specific setting, though . . . I turned the firewall on and off, disabled content compression and protection (then re-enabled), set TLS from proxy to Handheld, actually turned on support for some features in the browser, such as tables, that were by default off. But the difference in performance is like night and day, it's actually usable now even over the relatively slow 1XRTT connection.

At the moment, Settings/Security/Firewall is disabled, content compression is enabled w/protection disabled, TLS is set back to proxy, but I haven't gone back and reset the browser settings yet.

For some of you advanced users, the things I poked around in may make no sense at all (they certainly didn't for me), but something I did had an effect. Either that or VZW had some serious performance issues on their network yesterday, and they went away close to midnight (Eastern US) last night . . .

It has been my biggest letdown as well. It is still faster than my wife's 700w. Hopefully a software upgrade will improve it a bit. Mine will just sort of pause in the middle dloading data..

I'm using an unlocked Pearl on cingular and I had my VZW rep send me an 8703e and I can't believe how slow the browser is. My Pearl in much faster on a slower network. I've played with some settings to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

I experienced the same thing. My pearl wasn't much faster, but about 90% of the time a web page would finish loading an instant before the 8703e.
It has been much discussed about the evdo latency/ weaker device processing. The only real difference is tethering where you will see evdo speeds.

Here is what scares me. My friend has a brand new 8703 and his crushes mine(8703). No matter where we are it's always faster. We do side by side compares and it just seems his browser works the way it was supposed to and mine is crap. It acts like my old 7250. I'm on my 2nd 8703 and both were like this.
I wonder if there's a software glitch or maybe a hardware thing that makes some of the units kinda sluggish.

I was looking foward to getting a 8703e, but when I went to the Verizon store to try it out this past weekend, I was very disappointed with the browsing speed. On the display right next to the 8703e was the Treo 700w and 700p. The 700w also seemed somewhat slow, but the 700p crushed both of them. It wasn't even close. The same page that would take 30+ seconds on the 8703e and the 700w would be completely loaded on the 700p in 10 seconds. So after seeing that, I played around with the 700p, and now I'm considering getting that. I never had a Palm OS phone or PDA before, but I actually liked the way it worked much better than Windows Mobile.

Either that, or I may switch over to T-Mobile and get the Pearl.

My wife now uses a 700w and it is overall much faster at web browsing. My 8703 sometimes renders pages very quickly...other times it takes 25 seconds. Maybe it depends on the network and not the unit itself?

I, too, have just purchased an 8703e and am getting quite annoyed with the "Requesting..." that my browser shows for 10 seconds before loading the webpage. Does anyone have an idea on the specific settings that could be changed/altered to help this out? I'm on the central coast of California (San Luis Obispo) and while I'm not sure if I'm in an EVDO area, I'm hoping it can be faster than this...

Any help would be appreciated!

Maybe a reset will help. Mines runs fast enough for my needs. I guess it all depends on your location.

As far as the browsing goes on the 8703e, when I worked for Verizon Wireless in their WDTS department (Wireless Data Tech Support) I never had an issue with any of the 8703e I was able to get my hands on. If you guys pay for the unlimited data plan or any data plan for that matter, make sure you see the 1XEV logo near your signal indicator. If you do not see that, verify that you are in an EVDO coverage area or call VZW 1.800.922.0204 for VZW and tell them to check the features on the account and make sure you are provisioned to access the EVDO network.

Other than that make sure that your PRL is up to date, *228 option 2 on any VZW handset.

Hope this helps!
