Default Key Lock

I just got my dad a Cingular 8100 and he was wondering if there is any way to put a timer on Key Lock so it automatically goes on after a certain period of inactivity? Or do you have to manually turn on Key Lock each and every time you are done with the phone and want to put it back in your pocket? If so, that would seem like an annoyance.

Options / Security Options / General Settings
There is a security timeout feature in there.
You may have enable a password to use it.

The lock is a very good feature to have especially if you're going to keep sensitive stuff on there. The blackberry automatically wipes your data clean if the password is typed in incorrectly at the amount of times you set it for. I've never failed my password attempts more than once, so I can't say if it's a full wipe or not. The guys on here with more experience will confirm that I'm sure. Also, your dad can set the lock timeout to longer if he gets annoyed at the lesser times set.

In addition, he could get a case designed to activate the magnet/sleep feature. This will prevent accidental keypresses as well as save the battery. You can also set it to "Lock" when it is put to sleep by the magnet.

To avoid two handed password entry [one to hold down the shift key, the other to press the password containing numbers], my password is all letters.

Instead of having to memorize a sequence of random letters [my password does NOT form a word], I memorize a numerical sequence.

When I enter the password, in my mind I am entering the memorized numerical password when pressing the numbers on the keypad, but actually letters are being entered, not numbers.

Just a tip, hope it makes sense.

I find that to be more secure for me though. If someone stole my Pearl and didn't know about the alt key.....forget even trying. No shift key for me either.
