Issues when switching back and forth between bb and Iphone
Please Login to Remove!
The tmobile rep told me that every time I want to switch my sim card between my 9900 and unlocked Iphone, I have to call them and change the data plan from "blackberry" to "smart phone" plan.
I used to do this a few years ago with my old Iphone and blackberry and don't remember ever having to do this.
Anyone have any experiences switching simm's between the two phones, and hopefully with Tmobile.
Thanks.

Re: Issues when switching back and forth between bb and Iphone
To get BB features such as email, Facebook, etc, you must have the BB data plan. The iPhone or generic data plan doesn't work.
What happened several years ago doesn't pertain to today and to today's devices. Carrier's change their plans all the time. In fact, I think T-Mo even requires you to have a BB data plan to use wireless. I know AT&T and Verizon do as they don't send the service books unless you have the right plan.
Perhaps a call to their tech support would confirm the process?

Re: Issues when switching back and forth between bb and Iphone
I currently have a BB data plan. The question is whether the sim will work in the Iphone 4s without having to call Tmobile to switch over to what they call their "Smart Phone Plan".
As to calling "tech support", they said I would have to call to switch plans -- however, that's exactly what they said a few years ago and it wasn't true. In fact, experience shows that Tmobile tech support is often wrong about about these sorts of issues -- therefore the query for someone who has tried it out for themselves. "DC", I'm located in the U.S.

Re: Issues when switching back and forth between bb and Iphone
Ok. From what I have read, the BB plan "might" work in the iPhone. An iPhone plan won't work in a BB, especially if you need RIM services such as Facebook, email, BBM, etc.
Why not give it a try and see what happens? I know AT&T and Verizon periodically scan the devices on their networks to make sure a device requiring a data plan has one. I don't know if T-Mo has started this yet or not.
Are you in the US?

Re: Issues when switching back and forth between bb and Iphone
I am in the US and will try it out as soon as I get a micro sim card and an adapter tray I am comfortable with. As you say, their "smart phone" plan (for Iphone) will not work in the BB, but the question is the other way around.

It used to. If you had a BlackBerry plan, it would work in an iPhone. I did this for years.

Re: Issues when switching back and forth between bb and Iphone
Seems that now the carriers (at least Sprint) need to change something on your account when you're using a BlackBerry. It all happens on their end and doesn't cost anything extra/less, but they still have to make an adjustment to your account. Same thing when you move from a BB to something else.

Re: Issues when switching back and forth between bb and Iphone
Sounds like the OP needs a SIM card for the I-Phone and the carrier does not offer it without a plan switch. The BB uses a standard SIM card vs. Micro.

Re: Issues when switching back and forth between bb and Iphone
I do this all the time between my "non-smart" and BB as long as you have a BB data plan you're okay to switch vice-versa. As someone posted earlier they do random "searches" to see what's up..but if you have a BB from the jump you're okay .

So the OP will have no problem switching between the BB and an iPhone, right?

Re: Issues when switching back and forth between bb and Iphone
Hahaha... From my personal experience no. I do something very similar and as long as I have a "BB" plan on my acct. I can switch freely for a certain amount of time granted they do "random searches." I like you NJ! You make the forums fun!!!

Otherwise it would be smartphone profiling.

We don't cotton to that profiling up north here either. Sure, we still do it, but it's on the down low.
