I'm getting the following error message: net.rim.platform.ecmascript it says Iam missing that file
I took copied the OS folder from 4.2 and pasted that into my 4.1 folder, replaced the java folder. I bring up DM it recognized the core applications update and when I click next that is the error message I get. Any ideas?
Also says something about a PGP library?

Same here. I have the 8703e with Verizion. I guess it is model specific, not just the 8700 series. I even tried adding the .alx files to Application loader. It said that none of them where for my device.

Uh Oh? All was fine, Vodafone Today was there and working and then my SplashID was not working so I deleted it and got the generic black and white theme when the BB rebooted. My Vodafone Today is there but it won't let me activate it under themes, can activate Dimension etc. Is this because of the alx file? Thanks.
Edit: After another reset it is now back and able to be activated? Strange!!

And don't forget, if you have been able to successfully download the 4.2 software onto the 8700, then you can also now use the Freedom Universal Keyboard with the BB even if you are connected to a Blackberry Enterprise Server (unless permission has been specifically denied).
This is a fundamental change from the 4.1 software.

The underlying platform can't be loaded so CDMA users are out of luck until a CDMA build is out.
EDIT: It should be noted too that yes the media centre is included, but it does not include video or music players.

So with this new OS I can transfer music to my Blackberrry (compressed, as to not take up much space), and then use the media player to play them?
Because if so that would be so amazing!

No Chinese language support
4.2 was definitely worth the wait. The only functionality that I have lost in the upgrade is support for Chinese language characters. I was able to display traditional and simplified Chinese characters on all versions of 4.1 without selecting anything additional when I installed the OS. I used by T-Mobile and Bharti's 4.1 installation files. Right now, with 4.2, all Chinese characters appears as a solid square. If anyone has any insight on how to fix this, I would be very appreciative. Thanks.

Compressed or not this is not a ture Media player like the 8800.. there is no SD card expansion slot so how many songs do you think you can get on there before the LMM starts to delete messages and calendar appointments... Don't bother, i don't understand why people care about this...

Looks like the 4.2.1 device simulator for the 8700 is out now as well on RIM's site.

Maybe I am losing my mind but I swore I had read somewhere that v4.2 a user would be able to manage and move programs within folders (similar to the Cingular/AT&T theme with the applications folder)? Has anyone seen this functionality in this release?
. . . . then again I probably am losing my mind!
