Default Upgrade deal from Telus from Rogers 957 -> 7750 or 7510

Please Login to Remove!

I had a rogers 957 and was planning on upgrading to the 7780. However, when I spoke with Rogers on the phone, they told me that they couldn't offer me any sort of upgrade deal or price break on service. Basically no long-time customer appreciation. So whatever, I still wanted a new blackbery.

So I went into the Telus store to check out theirs and when I told them that I had a rogers 957, they offered to give me a Telus 7750 for $99 or a 7510 for $149, on condition that I trade in my 957. Seemed to good to be true.

So I went over to the rogers store and they told me that they did have an upgrade path and gave me a phone number to call. Well, after calling it and getting passed around a dozen times, they finally told me that they couldn't do anything for me (even when I said to them straight out "This is the Telus deal and this is what Rogers is offering. If you were me, what would you do?")

So I went back to Telus and gave up my trusty and much-loved 957 which served me well for years and picked up a new 7750.

So that's my story. Anyone with an old Rogers blackberry (or Bell too, I assume) and wants a fancy-pants new colour blackberry might want to visit their local Telus dealer.

Default however...

Here is a caveat to my story.

First of all, I would have rather had the 7780. I rumours about the 7750 being slow are quite true. The connectivity is great, the coverage is far greater than the the old 957 mobitex network, and the connection speed is also quite good. The issue lies in the actual processing. Anyone used to a 957 with its instant application loading/shut-down will easily be frustrated with the wait-times involved in simply loading brickbreaker, or even going from level to level.

(if any 7750 user can dispute this, please do. I would like to know if I am the only one waiting 50 seconds for brickbreaker to load).

Default another thing...

One other thing that 957 users won't like is being restricted to a WAP browser. GoAmerica's browser for the 957 wasn't perfect but it was far better than the WAP browser. After purchasing and realizing that GoWeb wasn't available and that my only web option was the dinky wap browser, I immediately went to myblackberry.us.

Which I recommend highly, btw. The service is very good, the price is very nice, the first month is free, and they have a webmessenger server, available at a discounted rate.

Also, apparently, some Telus 7750 users have been receiving the IPPP service books from Telus, so I guess they will be doing a full release soon. I can't wait.

wormx,

Through this $99 upgrade package, did you have to sign a contract on that, or no?

well, with a contract, by BB was $449, I got $150 off for signing a contract.

Meaning, that add $150 to $99 and you got a $249 no contract berry..

Quite the deal..

What telus place did you get this at?

I got it at the Telus store in the Eaton Centre, dowtown Toronto. But I'd bet any telus blackberry dealer will give you the same deal.

If it was through rogers, I'd love to know how to get it -- you wouldn't believe how much they put me on hold and passed me around. Like currency. I ended up speaking with marketing at one point.

If anyone manages to find a rogers agent who can confirm an upgrade break, please let me know so I can stick it to 'em. :P

Gentlemen:

Rogers always has an upgrade deal, but they offer it to select customers.

You can upgrade a Mobitex unit to a 6280 for $99, and a 7280 for $199. The catch? You subscribe to a 2 year plan, you pay $199 and $299 , but get a $100 instant credit on yhour bill when the old unit is traded in. You can do it with only a data plan too, no voice required.

Look at this guys:

http://www.rogers.com/promo/mobitex.html

Print this and give 'em hell, Rogers customer service is an army of idiots trained to say no.. no you can't deactivate you have to pay until the end of the month, no there are no deals, no i can't help you..

beat them down.. i'm an expert on it =)
