Curious about e-mails in posts

I was just curious as to why, when someone posts an e-mail address, that it shows up like it does. If you want to e-mail that person, you can't copy and paste, or click to send an e-mail to them...
Is this to prevent spam or something? Not that big of a deal...just curious is all...
