BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.981 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.981
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.577
* Software Platform: 3.2.0.24
* File name: 8350iAMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel981_PL3.2.0.24_A5.0.0.577_So uthernLINC_Wireless.exe
* File size: 89.58MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...DC9FD70DF9A859

This download is from Nextel but will work on ANY carrier's 8350i model BB. (Not 8300, 8310, 8320, 8330)

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

hmmm, it loaded fine this time but when it goes to boot up the progress bar (yay, progress bar) stops at about 60%. Gotta wait and see if it is just plain slow. hopefully it loads up just fine.

I noticed that in the download, it shows 3 models.

BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8350i smartphone
BlackBerry® 8350i smartphone
BlackBerry 7100i(TM)

I got a the BlackBerry® 8350i smartphone i think from Nextel. Can I use the one for the BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8350i smartphone????

Ones is the Package Version: 4.6.1.421 and the other is the Package Version: 5.0.0.981

Currently my BB has 4.6.1.204 Platform 3.0.0.73. And it shows that it is a BlackBerry® 8350i smartphone (iDEN, Wi-Fi)

Can I update to the 5.0.0.981??? What are the advantages?

Thx in advance.

Sry for asking, im a noob into BB.

I know that I got a BlackBerry 8350i in nextel. Just dont want to brick it.

Im asking since the link send you to a page where you have to choosebetween the 3 that i mentioned.

And the 5.0.0.981 says:

Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8350i smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.981 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.981
Consisting of:
Applications: 5.0.0.577
Software Platform: 3.2.0.24
File name: 8350iAMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel981_PL3.2.0.24_A5.0.0.577_So uthernLINC_Wireless.exe
File size: 89.58MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

And since they said it is from nextel but works in any 8350i...

You know where can i find more info for BB from Nextel?

I see bigwillyg had the same issue with the progress bar, but don't know what was the outcome ... bigwillyg could you share with us? Do I just have to wait? Start over? Thanks.

updating now... kind of nervous though, as I was watching screen during install, the dreaded 507 appeared for just a second and then went away. I am now on the Blackberry status bar, at roughly the 60% mark, so now I wait.
Also, how do you find "compatability mode" in Win7? I deleted vendor file and it seemed like it was gone?
wish me luck!

Same happened here with "Compatability Mode" ... could not find it ... just deleted vendor file and update worked fine ... don't worry ... it's a long wait ... about 30 min for me ... have about 700 contacts ... but not really sure if it matters ...

sorry for taking so long to respond, yes the first time you boot to 5.0 it takes a hauntingly longtime (30 minutes or so) but after that it is faster. It is still a slow boot process but only the initial boot takes forever. I do have the curve 8350i from Nextel/Sprint.

My update went fine... we're up & running! I had previous exposure to 5.0 when I loaded a beta copy on my 8900. Really slick!! trying to figure out the phone list... holy cow, my missed calls list is going back to March!

I reactivated it on our bes here at work and it seemed to get stuck at 97%. Eventually the message went away and I am receiving my email but the enterprise activation screen under advanced options doesnt say that I am activated.
