I did a search but nothing turned up but I don't think I am the only person to have this issue. I am trying to backup my phone data and it fails. I went into advanced and backed up everything except the 'Messages' section and everything went through fine but I got a warning saying

'Databases that are unavailable in the list have been configured for wireless synchronization or wireless backup and are read-only. You can not restore or clear them.'

When I attempt to backup just the messages portion it also fails. Can too many messages cos this error? there are 1267 in total. IF it helps I am using DTM 4.6 on Vista SP1.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that this is an issue with DTM 4.6, maybe try and get your hands on 4.5 and see if that helps. I use 4.5 with no issues, but at the same time, I have not tried 4.6.

Otherwise give us some more info ............ are you on BES or BIS. The wireless sync and backup indicates to me BES and therefore may mean an IT Policy is in place that would prevent you from wiping the device; not that you're trying to wipe it. However an IT Policy could be at play.

If not currently on BES, did you buy the blackberry new or used? Used BB's could have an IT Policy installed that was not removed prior to sale.

I don't believe the quantity of messages would cause a failure.

Maybe it's just me... but I don't get this. This sounds more like you're attempting to restore the database, rather than back them up. You shouldn't be receiving this message while trying to backup your device.

First off thanks for the quick replies!! Regarding the error message when doing an advanced backup. I think the message is just a general information message that the software displays. I am not using BES and the hand held was wiped and upgraded to the 4.5.0.55 OS a few weeks back. I had troubles backing up then as my address book was not included in a full backup for some reason. I took an old backup and combined the address book from that with the rest of the information which was current at the time. I will try the PC at home to see if that works otherwise I'll downgrade DTM to 4.5 and give that a shot. Stay Tuned!! Wish me luck!

I downgraded to 4.5 on my work PC and still same error at the same spot ... I am now gonna try this at home but things are not looking good ... Any advice?

I have had no luck with this and as a side note i tried setting my girlfriends laptop up as well and using her phone (8120) it also failed during the message section of the backup. Is this some kind of bug? Do OS versions on the hand held have to match the DTM version? I have now tried 4.6 & 4.5. I am not sure what is causing this ... Anybody out there having backup failures?

I have isolated it to my Messages however the same error happened on another PC with another Blackberry (my girlfriends) as well ... I am not willing to loose my messages as they are obviously the bulk of the information on my device. I bought a new device and i need to migrate from the old curve to the new BOLD. Everything was easily resolved by going back to 4.3 version of DTM.
