Ah! I got it. I was laying the card down and trying to close the door.

Instead, I set the card "in" the door and closed them together. That did the trick.

Purchased 2GB card from Newegg.

Initially it did not work, would not allow the Pear to boot up.

I upgraded the code to the latest provided by T-Mobile.

Working fine now.

Running v4.2.0.64

The problem is that I cannot get the media card holder door to close. Something seems to bump into the MicroSD. I've tried shifting the door and the card around to get them to line up, but nothing so far. Tomorrow, I will go by Cingular store and see if they can insert it, but I got the feeling when I got the phone that they may not have a lot of experience with them yet and they don't have any cards in yet.

Any suggestions?
A little late on this. But here it is for future reference.

Just thought that I should chime in! Amazon.com has 512 and 1gig Micro SD cards cheaper than newegg. but any way any one know what the max capacity is, on the pearls media card I know that that there is only a 2gig card out but I was wondering if there would be away to use 2 2gig cards. kinda like what the have done for running dual sim cards.?? anyway just thinking out of the box.

What do you mean running TWO 2 gig cards? There is only 1 slot for 1 card. You could have on hand fifty 2 gig cards and would be able to use them all....one at a time.

Microcenter has a 2 GB microSD card for $20 + shipping. I have no idea if the quality is any good. Search for SKU 879023.

I think what they were referring to was a flex assembly of some sort that would allow you to put two uSD cards together into the single available socket. There are devices available that will allow you to do this with SIM cards, though I don't know if those work on BB or not - never tried.

To answer te question though, if one of those devices in fact existed, it would still not work. The SD card spec is point-to-point and doesn't allow more than one card to be attached to the controller at once. When you see devices like the HPs that have two SD slots, that's because they have two controllers, one for each slot.

I ordered a 1GB Toshiba micro SD. It was $28.95 plus shipping through Amazon (BlueProton Consulting). Ordered it on a Thursday; it arrived on Monday. Can't beat that.

Hey - I saw a Kingston 1 GB microsd memory card on Amazon.com for $19... I have a Kingston in my BB Pearl (which I got on Amazon for $32, 6 weeks ago) and it works great!

Just thought I'd let y'all know...

Oh and the shieldzone skins are now 40% off for the next 2 days (google invisible shield 40% discount - sorry, but newbie and can't post a URL)

Good luck all!

What about running an internal microsd (normal config), and then an external microsd card reader with another card inserted and have that connected to the usb port on the bb8100?

Sorry, BlackPearl, to my knowledge it isn't possible for the blackberry to mount an additional device. It would need another mass storage controller, which I don't think it has. You're stuck with 2gb cards for the moment, and 4gb cards when they come out.

peace,
sam

Just wanted to give an update.
I got the Kingston 1GB from Buy.com last week for about $14.99 after rebates.
Thanks for the install instructions SanFran. I read them before I put it in and works like a charm - loving the memory upgrade so far, and all my MP3s that I transferred onto there.

I just took a 10hr.flight and mann.. listening to my music on my Pearl was fantastic.

cheers all!

I had problems with 1GB, went up to my Cingular pal and we troubleshot the problem. 2GB and 512 work fine but my Pearl 8100 absolutely could not see/read the 1GB. Just incase anyone else has problems with the 1GB, now you'l know why, maybe!
