My girlfriend wants a Blackberry Pearl for her birthday, she's on a Tmobile plan with a Sidekick LX at the moment..

I was about to order her a Tmobile Pearl from ebay, but then I happened to read that Blackberry has it's own data plan.

I've been Googling but keep getting mixed answers.. so I found this forum hoping I can get a clear answer lol.

After she takes her SIM out of the Sidekick, puts it into the Blackberry.. will she have to call Tmobile and have anything set up?

Will she need to switch from her Sidekick internet/data/text plan to some sort of Blackberry Plan? If so, does anyone know a difference in price?

She will need to call tmo to switch.

Just as a blackberry runs thru a RIM server, the sidekicks run thru Danger's/Microsofts servers.

This means that the data plans are specific to the device.

You can use a standard data plan on the berry, but you will need to use a seperate browser like bolt to access the web and email

Like Dan said just contact T-Mobile and have them switch to a BlackBerry data plan. It sould cost the same as the Sidekick data plan, and that should be the only thing you have to switch. Also check out BlackBerryFAQ.com for tips on buying a BlackBerry off of eBay.

Would the Blackberry Data Plan include texts as well, or would that be separate? She mentioned her Sidekick plan's features to me and I'm pretty sure unlimited texting was included.

Text plans are NOT included in any blackberry plans. Those need to be seperatey bought.

I can guarentee you/she will enjoy the berry much more. I came from an LX to a berry and I am more than overjoyed

Actually for Tmobile, I believe they have a plan for $34.99 that includes BIS and unlimited text. They used to have 400 texts with their $24.99 BIS plan but looks like they took it down.
