Default Blackberry Manager crash on start-up

Please Login to Remove!

I thought Google knew all the answers but it failed me on this search.

I try to run BlackBerry Manager, it immediately crashes (too quickly to see what the error message is). MNGR reports ACCESS_VIOLATION.

I thought I was way-behind on patches but I've upgraded to 4.1.6 MR4, running on Windows SBS2003 with Exchange patched at SP2. MSSQL was upgraded to 2005 some time back but this crashing issue is far more recent.

The MNGR log (which is on level 5) says:

Has anyone else seen this or can anyone recommend where to look? Can I re-install the Blackberry Manager piece somehow?

Interestingly, BES itself works fine. It connects to the DB, gets new mail, you can send mail from the Berry fine. It's just the manager that dies.

Hmmm not a good sign. I'll keep looking for the cause...

Yeah just reinstall the BM using the same setup file and choosing BB Manager only.

Is this just on one machine or any machine you try?

I found it. I installed Microsoft's Debugging Tools for Windows SBS 2003 and ran bbmgr through the debugger. It told me where the program was crashing - which turned out to be msxml. In the MNGR logs, there were no references to that being the cause at all.

I downloaded a msxml 4 update from Microsoft and now BlackBerry manager works fine. Something must have corrupted my instance of it.
