Interesting as how Symbian rarely enters the conversation (especially in the US) and they just hired a CEO from Microsoft. Well known for their Smartphone prowess.

Nice article but not sure I will bet the farm on their projections. As you said, anything can change.

Gartner is a well respected source for business information and surveys, but still, I can't see it as gospel.

But watch that the media will pick up on it and run run run - just like CNN has done.

Gartner - Ken Dulaney in particular - has been trying to tell RIM for many years how to run their business. Very interesting.

Seen several things in the BB discussion thread on LinkedIn where posters think RIM needs to go Android or be deposed and made irrelevant. Not sure if I agree with that either.

Perhaps Android will become irrelevant. I see it as the current fad.

You are all wrong. The heavens have opened and the voice said that Microsoft Mobil Windows 43 1/3 will be the winner. Bow down and accept the future.

Darn. I thought BB OS 7.314 would be the end all, be all.

Folks like those at Gartner fail to take into account the "Black Swan" events that permeate finance and technology. They make predictions based on current trends, but in tech we see blockbuster products drop from the sky and change the game radically. Like the iPhone. If you asked Gartner for predictions before the iPhone I'm sure it would have been radically different. The current trends Gartner sees could become irrelevant in 6 months and they want to make predictions out to 2014?! They're going to be about as accurate as the 10-day weather forecast.

In this case more like a 6 hour look ahead.
