Default USB connection no longer on new devices?

Please Login to Remove!

Why are the new bb's including the storm, niagara and bold using a proprietary connection when for years they always used mini usb?
Reason I ask is the industry was supposedly going to mini/micro usb for chargers and the newer bb's are different.

I have 6 q9m/ bb chargers because of all the replacements etc. over the years so I have chargers in each car, at my house, work, parents house, their shore house, etc.

Other than money for the carriers/ manufacturer's is there any reason for this?

The new RIM devices (Storm, Bold, Flip, 8900) ARE using the micro USB adapter. What "proprietary connection" are you talking about?

Its not a propietary connection, its a micro USB connection. Actually, more and more devices are coming out with this connection. Get yourself a mini to micro adapter and you can continue to use your existing chargers.

The micro USB used in the newest BBs is the new industry standard. Expect others (if they haven't already) to follow suit. Even my bluetooth Plantronics headset uses the same connection as my 8900.

Also, if you'll search, there are other strings discussing this including info on where to buy connector converters for the chargers you already have -- I think they only cost a buck or two.
