Default No data plan. Help! :D

Please Login to Remove!

Hi im new here and my name is Rob :D Im going to be purchasing a 8320 from t-mobile today. I can not afford the data plan for the extra 40 dollars right now. I have been trying to figure out what exactly I will be able to do without the plan. I know I should be able to surf the web if im in an area with free wifi. Will I be able to use aim or bb messenger? I guess the question is what will I be able to do with a normal plan on the bb 8320. Thanks in advance :D Im looking forward to spending time on here and maybe one day helping out noobs like me.

The BB messenger will work only if you are registered within one of the BIS or BES of your carrier. With the normal plan you can make phone calls, use your addressbook etc.

A BlackBerry without a dataplan is no BlackBerry

Who told you the data plan was an extra $40? If you add it to a voice plan, it's only $20 from Tmobile. Also, you can get a 1000 minute plan, with unlimited data for $60.

Yes, the unlimited BIS data is $20 with a valid voice plan.

You could also purchase BeeJiveIM from BeeJive.com and chat via Wi-Fi, or sign up for T-Mobile's generic $6/per month data plan and use BeeJiveIM.

That would be the best option. You would have access to everything...

Also, T-Mobile has a $10 plan that provides BB email only. (So no web browsing, no Google Maps, etc. I would assume IM wouldn't work either.)

If you have 8320, make use of the wifi. Go explore the city and find free hotspots. That's what I do since I dont have a data plan.

I got the service plan today and I cannot access the internet. It has been like 6 hours. Is the service not ready or are my settings wrong. It says something along the line of "you do not have the rights to access this page". Thanks guys :D

Try this:

1. Battery pull. With the device powered on remove the back and the battery. Count to 10 then put the battery back in and let it boot up. You should see uppercase EDGE or GPRS when you have a connection to the Blackberry servers. It will be lowercase edge or gprs if you do not have a data connection to the Blackberry servers. Same goes for UMA/uma.

2. If #1 doesn't resolve the issue, once the device is powered up from the battery pull go to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > press the Menu key and select Register Now.

3. If #1 and #2 do not work you'll just have to wait a little longer. If after 48 hours you're still having problems call T-Mobile back.

What happens when you try to access the Internet?

Which data plan did you add to your T-Mobile account?

I am not familiar with T-Mobile, but that doesn't sound like the BlackBerry specific data plan.

So you would have to use a 3rd party browser, like Opera Mini to access the internet.

its normally 40 I think but its only 19.99 if you add it on to a voice plan. We discussed it in this thread already.
