Default BES/ Domino/Notes 6.5.3 - emails 'read' or 'unread'

Please Login to Remove!

O2 have told me that Lotus Notes cannot do the following :
Mark message on BB (V3.7) as opened - the message then stays unopened in Notes mail. Surely BB can synchronise a message as 'read' or 'unread'?
They said it only works in Outlook?
Anyone know the truth?

This is a BES Admin Corner question. I am moving this message since it'll be more likely to be answered over there;

Read/unread is supported if you have:

- BES v4.0
- Domino v6.0 or later
- Handheld v4.0

Within Domino, which we use, the Read/Unread marks only synch when handheld is connected to the PC and synch'ed through Desktop Manager.

It does sync unread/read marks during wireless sessions for me. You should probably check the various versions of software that you have. Maybe one of them probably needs to be upgraded for the functionality to work.

Maybe I misspoke. I've only been using this a few days...but was darn sure this morning that the messages I had read with my blackberry were marked as Read. Doesn't seem to be happening right now however.

I am having this same issue as well, I am running BES V4.0.0.18, Domino V6.5.3 on NT.

Reads sync over the cable, but not wireless. Can anybody suggest why this might be happening?

What's the domino version you are running for the users' mail server and clients?
If the user is using an R5 client/R5 mail template the read/unread marks are locally cached on the client.....hence the reason to press the F9 key. And why manual syncing works.
The R6 client/R6 mail template has its "cache" stored on the server side....thus read/unread flags are updated instantly on the server side...this was an updated feature of the R6 architecture.

Then check the "Database Properties" of the users' mail file...go to the "Design" tab and ensure that "Do not mark modified docs as unread"" is selected...also go to the "Advanced" tab and ensure that under the "Replicate unread marks" section, that "All Servers" is selected. In the event their a replicas in the environment.

Glad to have helped....
These issues seem to be common (sometimes) in mixed environments or where an upgrade was done. Not always the database properties are consistent for all users.

Unread Marks work fine etc, but the mark that an email has been replied to doesn't. Is this normal?

Just curious Dev, why do you recommend this option should be selected? Our unread marks work ok and I don't think any of our mailfiles has this option enabled.

I've been trying to figure this out for quite a while. Thank you everyone so much for describing the solution and getting this figured out for me.

I think I may have spoken too soon. I did the following as DEV suggested:

1) Checked the "Database Properties" of the users' mail file... and then went to the "Design" tab and ensured that "Do not mark modified docs as unread"" was selected.
2) Also went to the "Advanced" tab and ensured that under the "Replicate unread marks" section, that "All Servers" was selected. In the event their a replicas in the environment.

That still did not process the read flag on the PC when the message was read via the BB.

I then checked "Don't Maintain Read Marks" in the "Advanced Tab". I thought that solved my problem however I realized that it now shows the message as read in my PC inbox even if it hasn't been read via PC or BB.

So I'm back to square one - any additional suggestions?

Thanks...
