Question Will Auto Synchronize save a web page to the cache?

Please Login to Remove!

Here is the idea:

In the morning before I leave home, and my free wi-fi connection, I'd like to save a whole bunch of pages to cache so I can view them wherever whenever. Things like weather, exchange rates, etc.

I want this to be a totally automatic process. I've set up my bookmarks in the hotspot browser to auto synchronize every 24 hours at 7AM (before I leave for work). So far so good, the icon changes to show that new content is available but when I try to view the page offline I get the message telling me I need wifi service to view the page.

Does this mean that the Auto Synchronize feature is not saving the web page to the cache? Is there another way?

It should work. Try a battery pull to reset the BB.
Did you upgrade the OS and this started?

I only just tried to set this up after the upgrade so I can't say whether the upgrade helped or hurt the situation.

I remember in OS 4.x there was a ""Available Offline" check box when setting up a bookmark.

I can't find that check box in OS 5. Hmm, I wonder what the default setting is...

I looked up the bookmark feature in bb help files:

"If you visit the web page offline, the browser displays the content that was current the last time that you viewed the web page online."

Found here:

docs.blackberry.com/en/smartphone_users/deliverables/14928/Add_a_bookmark_28627_11.jsp

So the "auto synchronize" feature doesn't actually view/download the page?! What's the point of it then?

You may be confusing Browser cache and synchronization. The BB does not store web pages like a PC.
Sync is for email and contacts etc.

KB05483-New features of BlackBerry Browser in BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2

Auto Synchronize

This feature allows BlackBerry smartphones to set up the BlackBerry Browser to automatically scan for updates to bookmarks and web feeds stored. When a bookmark or web feed is added or edited, it can be specify how often the BlackBerry Browser should check for updates to the web page in the Auto Synchronize field. When the BlackBerry Browser scans a web page that has been updated, the bookmark or web feed will appear in bold and italic.

It updates the bookmarks. It doesn't "pre-download" the pages.

So all "auto synchronize" does is change the icon... OK

Anyone know of a 3rd party browser that can schedule page downloads to cache?
