Default 7130e Battery Life

Please Login to Remove!

I'm trying to determine if my 7130e is defective since the battery drains in about a day with very minimum usage. The phone is constantly switching from 1EV to 1X to 1x due to limited coverage in San Francisco Bay area. The Green light blinks every few seconds. (I'm told that the green light blink represents a data poll). For example, My phone went from 90% battery to 75% battery while sitting on the counter for eight hours overnight. Bluetooth and location based services are not active. The screen turns off after 1 minute of idle time.

Here are my questions:
1. Is it possible that the 7130e is setup wrong, resulting in the battery drain?
2. Can I change the poll rate?

3. Do 1EV, 1X and 1x modes affect battery life?
4. Where do I purchase an extra battery at rock bottom price?

Thanks.

The battery life of mine seems poor too.

They will probably bring out an extended battery option like the 7100 has.

You can't use 7100 batteries in the 7130 so be careful. if you are looking for a cheap secound battery.

Turn off your bluetooth if you dont use it. You can also turn off the led, but that won't save much power.

My battery life is good. I use it quite a bit during the day. I turned off LED coverage notification (green LED) which helps somewhat. Since I use my 7130 tethered the USB cable charges it and I don't really use the AC charger.

Its better then the Treo!

I've had bad battery life as well. Today, I was in EVDO most of the day and it has been much better. At home I stay in 1X mostly and the battery drains fast.

Define bad battery life. My 7250 will go down to 50% over a days use. Is the 7130 even worse?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

After 15 hours in both evdo and 1X (with no voice calls) I was down to 1 bar. So far, that's the best battery life i'v had in the 6 days I've had my 7130. I'm turning off my 7100i and never dropped this low. I lose a bar early in the day. Maybe it will get better.

How do you like the 7100i compared to your 7130e? As far as browsing speeds go was it night and day or just a modest increase?

After three days I think that the battery life on the 7130 is at least as good as on the 7100g/t series (Nextel devices always chew up batteries). If your BB is constantly trying to search for EVDO and is switching between 1xRTT and 1xEVDO that will certainly use the battery more...

See the one I tested was horrible battery-wise compared to my 7105t and it is on EV-DO most of the time......I'm in the DC area which is a relatively solid EVDO market.

my 7130e has been on for a day and a half and I still have 2 bars. It was off for about 2 hours - plane ride but has been on the rest of the time. Use it for phone, receiving e-mails and general fooling around with it. I'm in a 1X area most of the time, did spend a small amount of time in an EVDO area.

It is important to make sure you 'condition' the battery the first few charge cycles to make sure you maximize battery life going forward.

I've had my 7130 since last Wednesday. I'm pretty much in EV-DO coverage in the South Bay Area (NorCal) and putting out 25 SMS and another 5-10 e-mails plus 30-45minutes in calls per day. I'm hitting 24-36hours between charges. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. Great feedback.

Home base is the heart of the Silicon Valley, and EVDO coverage is not great - so I suspect that the poor battery life is due to the 1x & 1X switching. I'm in Portland today, with less switching, better battery life as well as better EVDO coverage. Go figure...

Update:

My 7130e has been on since early Sunday morning (except, as I mentioned above for a 2 hour flight). It lives in the holster overnight but out and on my desk/or in my pocket the rest of the time. Still showing 2 bars - status say 40%

I'm in a 1X area most of the time.

I get two days off a charge with heavy use. I'm in a predominantly EVDO area.

That is cause it is in the holster leave it out and it will drain

I think for the people not in the evdo places the BB is trying to find evdo and cannot get it so it is killing the battery. At least in the cell phones you can hack it to shut off the evdo signal

There seems to be some variation from battery to battery. I was getting poor battery life from my 7130e so I swapped a battery from an unused 8700 in the office. THe 8700 battery seems to last significantly longer.
