Default Complete battery discharge?

Please Login to Remove!

hi there,

i got the bb curve about 2 weeks ago, and i've been told to charge/discharge the battery a few times for max batt life. (by my sales guy and also in the wiki here: Maximum Battery Life - BlackBerryFAQ)

so, i've let the battery run down to where the radio goes off, but i can't seem to get it to completely run down/shut off. last night around 7 the radio went off so then i left it on and was playing games, recording, bluetoothing, etc. and it would not shut down. so i left it on all night and this morn it was still on ...

so my question is: do i need to discharge the battery TOTALLY (i.e. till it shuts off) to "break it in" or just until the radio is off. if totally, then how do i get the battery to drain until it shuts off completely?

thanks!

Do not discharge it! It's bad for Li-ion batteries.

hmmm. i read here: Maximum Battery Life - BlackBerryFAQ that you should do it a few times to "break it in" but then keep it topped off pretty consistently.

i haven't discharged it totally yet ... just until the radio goes off.

What I did with my battery was let it get past around 25-30% on the first three cycles and after that, I charge whenever I could and I have no issues. Just don't let it die

That's right!!!!!

Do NOT deep discharge your lithium-ion battery.

The recommendation to break-in the battery is an urban myth. Treat your blackberry battery like your car battery. Regular top-ups!!!!!

The info in that FAQ is cr^p!

L-Ions hate being discharged to near dead. It GREATLY shortens battery life!

Just charge your device every night, while sleeping, and enjoy!

There is no procedure that will make that big of a difference with your battery so just relax and enjoy. If you are that close to running out of power everyday before you go to bed then you need to stick it on a charge at the office or in the car a little each day.

got my phone on tues. i charged my battery for just 5 hours with the phone off. and after that i just topped it off.

yesterday starting at 8am i was able to talk for about 6hrs, browse random forums throughout the day, sent about 50 or so txts and bb messengered for a bit. the battery was at 15% by 11pm

so id say you DONT have to do the break in. my Pearl wouldnt last half the time my Curve does and i did the break in with it. go figure lol

I am like you and my phone runs 24/7 except about once a month on the 8820, I pull the battery. Don't know why as I got 34.4mb free before and the same after. Now when I am feeling like using the Curve the battery pull is at least once a week and it does recover a good bit of memory.

I don't turn off mine either. I charge whenever I get home. The lowest my Curve has gone on the juice is like 70%--that's the lowest since 15% or lower when I followed the FAQ as a newbie around Oct '07.

batttery life on the 8310 is GREAT. fully charged saturday morning and barely hit red sunday night with a few hours of calls, LOTS of texts and bbm's and posting on my forums most of the days (rather use the BB cuz my girls computer is stupid slow lol).

i basically put it down to only eat and sleep a few hours and it lasted me 2 days.

Ok, try this and see if it helps.

1. Disconnect the charger.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Check if it's really for the 8310.
4. Put it back in and try charging again.
