As it stands now the 9700 is not a Bold replacement candidate. It's a curve. RIM should keep the original Bold factor (keyboard/screen estate) and just replace the trackball with a pad and add memory and cpu.

THAT would be a Bold replacement handset and THEN I'll upgrade to it.

I've changed 3 Bolds now and I had offers for the 9700 or the Storms. Not a chance!

The name is irrelevant. Call it Bob for all I care. Fact remains that we still haven't seen a true Bold replacement model. One that keeps the form factor/size and upgrades the spec (mem/cpu).

Well, the 9700 still has the same cramped keyboard as the 9000. I personally love my Bob and didn't like the whatever you want to call it with the giant smushed keyboard.

My facts are that the 9000 felt like an oversized, bloated BlackBerry. I gave it away instantly.

But.. That's just an opinion, right?

Hum...I like the form factor of the Bold 9000, I have big hands, i'm 6ft4 so it helps! the camera suck, but other than that it's perfect for me, widescreen, easy to type on it, 3.5mm audio jack, etc...

to me a true Bold 2 would have:
the same form factor on the 9000,
better camera like the 9700,
better mediacard mem (mini-sd up to 32gb or at least 16) AND better on board mem.
better cpu (intel atom? lol )

I was tempted in Jan when ATT offered me a free upgrade, just to have a spare phone. Now I think I'll wait for the 9700's successor. The one with the touch/tactile combo

Hi am just new to Blackberry, in fact am still choosing what to get between Bold 9000 and the 9700. I have been a Nokia/Symbian user for the past 8 years. just wanted to ask:

1) with Blackberry , i cannot use my Media Card to run other Apps? ( Symbian can do this)

2) The on board memory on the BB9000 and BB9700 can only be used for media files and cannot be used for apps? Does this mean all other apps that u install will only be in the flash memory ?

Just upgrade the 9000 specs and switch to trackpad, and I'd be happy. The keyboard and screen are easy to live with.

Screen and size are perfect, keyboard is a joy to type on. The ball has a bit of a temper, need for cleaning or replacement would go away with the pad, memory and cpu upgrades are always welcome.

+1 biggie, totally agree. Seems most of the heavy users at work share the same opinion on this. Same have mentioned the camera being in desperate need of an upgrade since the quality is low but im not really bothered. I spent quite some time in a "secure" installation that had them disabled on BES under corporate policy and never really needed the camera function. I keep an IXUS in the gadget-case for the quick snap needed now and then.

I don't know about the rest of you but personally i will keep upgrading to 9000s until i see a RIM product with the same form factor/ dimensions, same screen and keyboard and a pad. They can call it the New New Bold or Mary Lou, i don't really care, when i see it, im buying it.

Even the carriers start taking notice. Vodafone in the UK removed the 9000 when the 9700 was out (from the prosumer accounts) but kept it on business accounts (and still offers it) since so many businesses refused to give up their 9000s for the 9700.

Good to see i'm not alone on this. Do we have anyone from RIM R&D or product dev on the board?
