Yep, that's what I had to do. iTunes pisses me off though... I paid money for these music files, why should have any issues converting them to mp3s for my BB?<<<<

DRM has been an evil thing for years. It's not going away outside of paying Apple an extra $.30 per song. grrrrr.

that being said, I use the doubletwist.com application for transferring music, vids and photos. dT syncs iTunes and or WMP music (or drag and drop from Windows Explorer) and videos and photos from anywhere on your box -- built out for Windows and Mac.

You can also send your media, music/videos/photos to friends - to dT members and non-members alike.

it's free of course. check it out. it's pretty sweet.

media sync is the way to go. Also, if you do not want to copy the songs to cd's and re import them, there is certain software online that will remove the drm.

So I have a question, Half my playlist is DRM protected by the Apple Nazi BS. Can I accomplish the same feat by copying over my entire playlist ot my 1TB external HD and then burn it all back into Itunes?

No you have to burn an AUDIO CD, and then import it back to remove the DRM.

If you purchased the song off of itunes, then it is DRM protected. Also if the file extension is .m4p, then it is DRM protected.

Some iTunes songs are DRM-free (iTunes Plus). Price for DRM-ed songs is usually US$0.99, DRM-free US$1.29

A quick Google search gives a forum post (1st link with itunes drm how to tell):

"Within iTunes, DRM files should have the word "Protected" in their file type descriptions (select Get Info on a track, or show the "kind" column in the column view). In the Finder, DRM audio files should have the extension ".m4p".

Non-DRM files purchased from iTMS say "Purchased" and have an ".m4a" extension."

iTunes purchased DRM-free files will still have your name and email embedded in them.
