Are you on TMobile US? If so, do you have a BB data plan? What is the exact version of Desktop Manager? Look in Help >About Desktop manager and post the version.

You might try going to the blackberry.com site and upgrading your Desktop Manager to the latest. I don't recall the exact version where this feature was added. I'm using 5.0.1.37 and the feature is there. The feature is only visible if you have a device from a carrier that supports the tethering so you have to plug your device in before you will see the option.

Yes, I had the 8120 plugged in an recognized by the Software. Perhaps I will download the older version from T-Mobile's site that is authorized by them. But the version I have now except for having no IP Modem option is working perfectly.
Edit: Oh, BTW, I have the latest hanheheld OS that is authorized by T-Mobile for 8120 ~ 4.5.0.124

Download the version with media manager. Then use the advanced features when installing and choose not to install media manager. The older version likely won't have it. It's relatively new.

1st I did a complete uninstall of Desktop Manager using Absolute Uninstaller, even cleaned the registry, IOW I completely removed all traces of the previous version. Then I installed the 5.0.1 B73 download which installs version 5.0.1.37 as you have stated you are using and still IP Modem does not appear as on option to select. I am using 4.5.0.124 handheld software on my Pearl 8120 which is the latest version that is authorized for the 8120 by T-Mobile.

Perhaps Desktop Manager is not recognizing my 8120 as a T-Mobile phone?? And that is why the IP Modem option does not appear?? Don't know why that would be.

I am at a loss at this point to as to how get tethering to work using the Desktop Manager.

I wasn't aware that it was device OS dependent, but you might try upgrading your device OS to the version linked below. There is no need for a "TMo authorized" OS.

Are you on a BES, by chance?

Yes, but at the time I upgraded the 8120's OS I waited for T-Mobile authorized version because at that time way too many people were having problems with wi-fi UMA with new OS's on T-Mobile devices.

Nope not on a BES. But realized what the problem is. I have a dual boot PC with TinyXP which has some components removed and my other XP OS is also customized and I have removed many components in that OS also.

I never thought I would need Dialup Networking's modem components (which have been removed)in my XP OS's.

Both versions of Customized XP OS's I run run excellently and way better than a full XP install, but looks like I will need a "triple" boot system and need to add a nearly "Full Install" of XP to use the Desktop Manager's IP Modem option. I'll just boot up into the "Full Install" of XP when I need to tether the 8120 as a modem when there is no Wi-Fi in range for my laptop.

Thanks for all the replies in any case.
