Default 8310 Backlight Control

Please Login to Remove!

Have had my 8310 for a week now and love it except for one glaring shortcoming, which is of course RIM's steadfast love of forcing users to save power by not allowing the backlight to stay on indefinetely.

Seriously, can somebody tell me why in the world they've never addressed this? On my old 7520 I could use bblight and life was good. I could sit in a meeting with the ringer off and watch emails come in. But bblight doesn't work with the 8310.

Has anyone tried to create a utility/update bblight for the curves? If I put one of my programmers on it, do you think I could make enough back in donations to cover the cost of doing it?

Just do it out of the kindness of your heart, you know the programmer time. I'm personally slightly disappointed that there's not an even larger blackberry opensource community, especially given the mad love that these products have.

Maybe I'm not thinking of the same thing, but on my 8300, under Options/Screen/Keyboard, I can turn off the Automatic Backlight. I think this will allow the Backlight to stay at whatever brightness I've selected even if the ambient light dims.

Default Backlight Timeout

Sorry, I'm talking about the backlight timeout feature. The max timeout is 2 minutes. There's no "leave on" or "none" option to leave the backlight on so I can't leave my BB in the charger stand and see who my emails are from without reaching over and clicking one of the buttons to bring the backlight back up.

Bblight has an option to do this, but it doesn't work on the 8310.

MaxPower, did you ever get a solution to the BBlight and backlight timeout problem? I also would like to use BBlight or a similar app to disable the timeout feature.

"Enable external power" in BBLight works well with my 8310.

There is a free app called BBLight found in this thread which allows the light to stay on all the time.

has anyone actually got bblight working properly on a 8310 Curve, I've tried the recommended version and it installs ok etc but the results arent great.

I have a thb bury car kit for my curve which charges when docked so I want it to leave the backlight on when docked and powered but what I found was that bblight does seem to work but then driving along the backlight comes on for a while goes off, comes back on etc etc and it just keeps doing that (which is very distracting)

am I the only one who's had this with external power and backlight on?
