without knowing any further details about the usage of your phone, the only thing I would recommend as the most basic of all troubleshooting is to remove the battery and the sim, and then to place it back in again.

you'd be surprised how often that actually fixes an "odd" problem with the phone - but again, keep in mind that it is only the most basic troubleshooting start procedure, you may most likely need to inquire further with customer helpline.

also, you said it was an 8700r - if you're a rogers client, do call the DATA support line, they're quite helpful.

LEGAL NOTICE: I believe this will solve your problem, but take no responsibility for the consequences. Your best bet is to call your service provider.

I assume you've already tried to take the battery out and put it back in. If you haven't, try that first!

That said, you'll need a computer with at least the Application Loader (which is included in the Desktop Software - get the current version) and the device's software (again, get the latest version from your provider), and your sync cable. Once you have that all set up, connect the device and run the application loader. If it refuses to reload the device's software, uncheck everything (noting what you uncheck), and wipe the software from the device. Then run it again, checking all the boxes you unchecked and reload the software. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PHONE CHECKED IF IT APPEARS ON THE LIST! Some device packages do NOT have this checked by default, and then you can't make phone calls!

If the device is so fried that the Desktop Software can't find the device, you'll need to contact your provider and have them send a KILL command to the device. If you're on a BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server), the BES Admin can do this. In six years of working with Blackberries, I've only needed to resort to this once!

call *811 on your wireless phone (your blackberry), you'll run through an automated service, very simple to go through, a couple of voice commands and keep saying "DATA"

they'll transfer you to data immediately.

call first thing in the morning if you can they have busy periods
