Default Mobile Hot Spot Security

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Using BES 5.0.2. I am about to upgrade our BlackBerry devices to OS7.1 and want to allow some users to be able to use their devices to host a mobile hotspot and some not. I think I just need to import new IT policy rule definitions for BB Device Software 7.1, which adds a rule to the WiFi category to allow or disallow. What I also want to do is set a password pattern (minimum length, hide, etc) , security type (WPA2 Personal) and possibly limit the number of devices to connect (to one device only). I have read the rule descriptions and can't see how to do this apart from on the device itself. Is it possible to govern these options through the BES IT policies? Please accept my apologies if there is an obvious way, and I should have spotted it.

Thank you very much for your help.

are you on Full BES or Express?

Full BES can do this but express is limited on IT policies

Hi Knottyrope

I've imported the new IT policy rules for BlackBerry 7.0 and 7.1, and although this now gives me the option to disallow MHS, which is great because I can now allow this for some users and not others, there are no new rules to set password pattern or security type. I know a strong password can be set on the device, but my concern is that users will change the password to 1234 or their name, and security to none. I see there is also a new rule to Disable data exchange for Mobile Hotspot mode (WiFi Category), but isn't that required to be able to connect to the MHS?

Thank you for your help - it is much appreciated.

Stacey
