I have US Cellular and just got a BlackBerry with an unlimited data plan, so I'd rather NOT spend the extra for SMS. So, I just send texts through my e-mail. Here's the weird thing though... some people (that I know of: US Cellular, Verizon, and Alltel) will get my "text," but it will be from something like:
SRS0=OCbHYV=37=mydomainemailhere=myusernameemail at srs.bis.na.blackberry.com
The "mydomainemailhere" is the part of my email after the at and the "myusernameemail" is the part before the at. That shows up in the SMS body, not the "from" field. I tested this by sending an email to mynumber at email.uscc.net from my email on my BlackBerry versus my email on my computer. And the e-mail sent from my computer to my SMS shows up from my e-mail address without all the craziness, but it shows up all weird when sending from my email on the BB to my SMS addy.
Any ideas why? Seemed to rule out the phone by sending it to my computer e-mail, return address is fine. Seemed to rule out the network by sending an email through my computer. I'm stumped!
(I can't post email addresses... sorry)
